10th Gen Civic Si Boasts 500 WHP World Record Dyno Pull

By -

Never doubt that small displacement can’t make big power, as the new Civic Si, and its turbocharged engine shows.

Since the glory days of the naturally-aspirated B18C and the K20A, newer, small displacement forced induction Civic builds have been raging in the automotive community. Honda has been known to make reliable motors that can still punch way above their weight with some modification. Featured in the 10th generation Civic Si is the L15 turbo engine, that makes around 205 HP from 1.5L at 20ish psi at around 6,000 RPM. We know that with a simple Hondata tune, these little turbos can make an additional 30ish HP and 40 ft/lbs of torque extra, thanks to some more boost. What if you were to get a little bit crazy and push that engine to its stock block limits?

Thanks to our friends at MAPerformance, we are able to find out exactly that. This L15 has gone through a lot more than a simple tune and currently it holds the world record at a stout 515 WHP and 379 WTQ. Those are outrageous numbers for the little four-cylinder and we are glad to see what its really capable of. Lets see what it takes to get this engine to these amazing power figures.

MAPerformance Si World Record Dyno

Firstly, the turbo needed to be changed. You didn’t think that baby stock turbo was going to be able to push that much power, right? In its place is a Garrett Gen 2 GTX3071R dual ball bearing turbo, which is rated up to 650 HP. As with most stock systems running bigger turbos, the first issue you’ll usual run into will fueling, so to ready this the team at MAPerformance added a Walbro 525 fuel pump as well as a port injection system, for easier supplemental fueling. To finish it off, the team ran a prototype piggyback tune to control that extra boost and fueling. The result is an incredible 500+ WHP on a Dynojet dyno.

Considering the fact that the L15 in this Si is sporting a completely stock bottom end, it really is a testament to the efficiency and capability of modern motors coming out of Honda’s development team. The team is determined to make another world record with throwing down the fastest 10th gen 1/4-mile time. We will have stayed tuned for that part, but seeing as the Civic already has drag tires and slicks equipped and fitted, we should be seeing that pass on the strip soon. Now that is something we can get excited about.
