CMP November 3-4 - School and Time Trial
November 3-4, Triangle Z Club and Tarheel Sports Car Club are hosting a high performance drivers' school and time trial at Carolina Motorspors Park. Anyone who reads this board should go (many already are).
The format for the weekend will be fairly typical HPDE stuff. This one, however, is inexpensive and promises to be a lot of fun. What you'll get...
1. Lots of time on track. The usual ~3 hours (1.5 per day), give or take a bit depending on how many people we get.
2. Carolina Motorsports Park in November. Many of you know that I'm a big CMP fan - it was, after all, the site of my first "is that thing supercharged" experience.
3. Top-flight in car instruction. Many familiar faces will be there to help you get better.
4. Lots of seat time.
5. A well organized event. The School and Time Trial in mid April, for those of you who weren't there, went extremely well. John Downing, long time head of track events for Z Club, puts on a quality program.
6. Did I mention lots of seat time?
7. AND...for those of you with some experience and some safety equipment...a Time Trial at the end of each day. The Time Trial requires experience (2 schools where you've been signed off), SCCA Solo 1 safety gear and (without the fire suit). You say your friend got you at a 1:57 this morning? Prove it! We've got a state-of-the-art timing system and a permanent staff dedicated to the TT portion of the weekend. You can participate in, or simply just watch...
- Peter Reinhart laying the smack down in his (mostly stock) E36 M3
- The "D Street Prepared Asskicking Contest" (thanks for the quote Scott), featuring Whitney, MaddMatt, SPiFF, hopefully madhatter, possibly RoadRacer, myself, and others.
- r2x battling for the 2001 title in B Stock
- Some really fast drivers pushing themselves hard
It's going to rule...and you need to be there. Want more information? It's all here: http://www.thscc.com/timetrial/. Or you can post here for the skinny...or IM me...or email me...or whatever. Sign up soon - we sold out the April event...and it was on Easter weekend.

Sorry but I'll be at Summit getting my ECHC ducks in a row.
But, man, is the Time Trial at CMP gonna be fun. I just need to go spend some money on my car before November so I won't get too embarassed by all those bastards in DSP Integras...

Speaking of getting too embarassed by all those bastards. . . what kind of times are the ASP cars spitting out? MAF is allowed in SP right?

I am so there. CMP in November might not be 107 degrees.
Phat-***, er, S: Check out http://www.thscc.com and look for the results from last year's TT there. I'm pretty sure there were some cars in ASP.
Matt, who was also mentioned in #7 and will be at the wrong end of the DSP *** kicking contest

Since Whitney and some others mentioned it...yes, I'm making every effort that I can to make good and sure that THSCC doesn't schedule any track events over top of NASA. This particular conflict, unfortunately, was a track availability problem. NASACHRIS and I are already talking about this - I'm confident that conflicts will be minimized in '02.

Can I run in DSP and waive points?
If not, I'll run in ITS.
If not, I'll run in ITS.
Actually, the class doesn't matter too much, cause we'll all be competing on times just like at an autocross. This spring karl was running around the paddock bragging about beating most of the BSP guys, and the ASP guys, and, well, almost everyone. The TT is pretty neat, cause we do live announcing of times and quite a crowd ends up spectating and cheering the TTers on.
Wuh-oh, gotta run before Diane comes and kicks my *** about that BS comment....

So, would I like be in CSP? Forgot SOLO II rules, but as I recall IT prepped cars go in street prepared, right? Hmmmm!
How will times be used? Do you get a 1/2 lap warm-up, 3 hot laps then a 1/2 cool down? Basically a SOLO I event? Just curious....

An I *wasn't* running around bragging...I was too busy defending myself from the viscous middle finger attacks from Whitney.

And you have to admit, some of the things you can do in IT and not in SP are much more of an advantage on track. Many of the things you can do in SP and not in IT are much more of an advantage for autocross.
On a related subject, everyone should absolutely can any thoughts of ever applying the PAX system to judge Time Trial / Solo I results. There are too many ill-handling, but high power cars out there that are in low-pax classes, and vice versa. Usable power makes a huge difference on all those long straights... Not so much at an autocross.

Re: CMP November 3-4 - School and Time Trial (whitney)
The SEDIV Solo I program allows IT cars to run in their SP classes. Whichever they choose. The only thing (as stated in the rulebook) you have to be careful about is mixing the rules.
In other words, you couldn't run a stripped interior (illegal in SP) with 8" wide wheels (illegal in IT).
SP cars can't run in IT classes unless they meet IT safety rules (full cage, etc.)
In short, I could run in DSP or ITS. My choice.
Jon is legal for ITE (catch-all regional class), so he could run in his corresponding SP class - CSP.

I am lost (per usual in SCCA classing) but if Jon is in ITE and I would go to ITE, then why am I in ASP and Jon is in CSP? Just lost

I *think* it's because the car would go to whatever SP class it would go into otherwise. So if, for Solo 2, your car goes into ASP...you're in ASP.

Or we can all just run in BS <ducking>...

Re: CMP November 3-4 - School and Time Trial (whitney)
Actually, I'm not even gonna be able to run BS, unless Kauffman doesn't mind an aftermarket clutch... mine has given up and I see no point in putting in a stock one just so I can run BS in 2 more events this year. CSP, here I come.
