Default Tree hugging @ Summit Point

Hey guys, Summit Point is asking for a bit of help planting 500 trees on September 15th. It's for sound deadening so that the neighbors don't get all salty. If you want to help, you can either help plant the trees on the 15th or pitch in $38 bucks to sponsor a tree. Hell, maybe they'll even let you carve your name into it

If you're interested, email them at office@bsr-inc.com

Very Funny Jon. Been watchin' Dennis Miller haven't cha'?

Some other ones I know of...

Roebling Road - The current sound limit is 105dbs, which isn't too terribly bad, but still a pain for a full-out race car to achieve.
This comes from the people who have moved in ACROSS THE STREET from the track. Yep... you can see their houses from the paddock.
Let me see if I can imagine that conversation...
Future Home owner - "Is that race track across the street loud?"
Real Estate Agent - "Race track? Oh... that thing... you won't even notice it's there."
Home Owner - "Alrighty then... I'll take it."
Unreal.
At least it's a reasonable 105dbs. They tried to get it knocked down to 85 a little while back. ****... 85dbs??? No way.

But my favorite is Road Atlanta where there is a city ordinanced "Quiet Time" every Sunday from 10am to 12:30pm. Nobody can figure this one out. Apparently God can't stand race motors in Braselton Georgia during those hours (no... there isn't even a church in sight).
Ahhhhh... livin' in the bible belt.

Limerock is the worst on the East coast. MAJOR sound restrictions there.

Anyway, the CARE group had a number of concerns which were raised at a public hearing earlier this year. One of those was about the constant noise coming from the track - loud engines, squealing tires, and gunfire...
GUNFIRE>>>>

Yes, gunfire! We do not use black flags at Summit Point since we have found this more effective method.

I've been to Summit Point three times now. I don't recall any gunplay in the paddock. Must be talking about the secret service training going on.

Honestly, I'd be proud that my community was helping to develop and advance the security for the President.

How long will it take for 500 trees to grow tall enough to provide any significant sound deadening anyway???

Jon

Corey,
that means that mounting a machine gun to the front of the car to get rid of those non pass signal giving SOB's would pass tech inspection!

Back when the U.S. didn't have a ban on supersonic flights... , people would often call the FAA and others complaining about the sonic booms created by the Concorde as it flew over their house... at 50,000 ft.

Thing is, nearly as many people would call in to complain about the sonic booms... on days the Concorde didn't fly... Some people's mission in life is to b#$%.

Doesn't the GCR have a limit of 103db?

ramming those BSR cop cars through a fake roadblock that explodes when you hit it, while being shot at from the woods
Dude, I don't know about anyone else... but this sounds like a whole lot of fun to me! Where do we sign up??!

Yep, those trees are gifts to the Summit Point surrounding community... and like many gifts, "It's the thought that counts."

Yep, but more than the SCCA runs there.
AND... that GCR rule is very widely unenforced. An uncorked 13B rotary at full throttle is WAYYYYY over 103dbs.

My Integra is actually at 103dbs on the straight at Roebling. I got a warning last time I was there .

Bah!!!!!!!!!
My rotary (13B) has to meet the 92db sound restriction at Laguna Seca each time i run there. It's a HUGE compromise in performance for the sound. We've rigged up removeable muffler system to adjust the sound levels for each tracks sound restrictions.

Yes, we run several NA 2nd gen RX-7's. We now have 2 in E-Prod and 3 in PS-1, plus more being built as we speak. We have found the ideal exhaust setup for performance, but is always hindered by the sound restrictions.

Laguna Seca is the most difficult track, with; it's low 92db sound restrictions. The noise of your engine is also weather dependant, so if it passes in the morning, it may not pass in the evening.

Damn, my RX-7 retains the catalyst and still wouldn't pass sound at Laguna Seca. Last I checked, it's about 93db at Summit Point.
