Default Mesh Grill 101: Learn to make your own

Hey ladies and gents. After learning to do Baking headlights 101, I decided to move from student to teacher. I decided to make my own custom mesh grill. Below is the link to the page that it is all done in.
I dont have it on my car yet, cause the outside piece is being painted. But enjoy guys:

I'm finishing mine this weekend – I've already removed the plastic center section.

I have a 98 Civic EX and I'll be visiting "the Depot" tonight. Would it be easier to use metal mesh or plastic mesh to make the grille? And, what department did you get your metal mesh in? Last time I was there all I could find was mesh for bbq grills and that was waaaay to thick.

I would use plasic... It won't bend like metal if a rock hits it or something. Is that drywal spackle I see? Poorman's bondo...

Use the metal mesh. I had plastic mesh, and trust me, the metal is much easier to work with. Cause you can bend it to fit the center.

and thanks for all the props guys!

cosmetic is the purpose, and makes the front look cleaner, and im sure he likes the look better ,and could be the reason why hes doing it.Another he doesn t want to pay a few bills to get one, when he could spend some pocket change and make his own.

Looks good man ,nice work.

Thanks you!!!
The reason its behind in that spot is cuz thats where it fits. I like the look alot better and looks alot better then that shitty al black grill. This grill costed my 8.10 to make and 1-2 hrs of my time. I getting it painted for free tho.
But anyways, thanks for the comments. Its really easy to make guys. Just remember to have patience when it coming to painting it..hehe.

I agree that metal is better than plastic for fitting and bending purposes, however, I bought some plastic grill called "Gutter Guard" from my local parts store (Ace Hardware) for $2.50. I got a whole roll and it looks very nice. The advantage is that it's cheap as hell, has a nice pattern and it's already in black. I'll have pics soon.

i definately think that making your own grill is worth the time...better than wasting 4-5 times the money on a grill that will pretty much look the same...i actually made one from gutter guard grill from home depot...its a plastic grill that i just painted...that way if a rock hits it or people poke on it as they usually do (oh wut's that?-poke poke)..it wont bend or cave in...total costed me about $15 including the spray paint. good lookin out on sharing the idea man

for those ppl think a metal grill mesh will fu_k up after a rock hit..
NO..you can bent it back and it will look perfect.
those gutter mesh are made of stainless stain= no rust.
Prepainted mesh have a dull color on it that's why alot of ppl use
silver grill mesh.

very true man...its kinda a pain in the *** but i put that clear coat over it so it lasts a bit longer than usual..the paint chips mostly when i wash my car and when i try to get those bugs off of my grill...most of the time i usually just cut myself a fresh grill since i have so much left and its cheap anyway.
