Default Help Needed

I recently traded my 99 civic Si for a 97 civic with a H22A and the transmission code is weird. I did a search on this code "P2U5" and i came up with this post but no answers so i was wondering if anyone knew:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=477645

The Gears are long..

1st 0-40mph
2nd 40-70mph
3rd 70-110mph
4th well by then i slowed down

Another question, I'm trying to figure out which H22A i have. I noticed the the stamp on the head said p-13 which made me think its a 4th gen. Can anyone help with this? Also what is the redline? I currently have a burned chip and it is unlimited...however i am shifting at 7800rpm.

TIA

I would get an H22 tranny and shift at 7300 unless your at the track and trying to really prove something. I wouldn't be taking it all the way to 78 everyday thats for sure. Thats alot of stress for those 50mm mains.

Actually i don't race as much as i used to but i just want to learn the H22A as much as my B16 when i had my Si. I have yet to take this car to the track and don't really intend to till i have everything the way i want and have knowledge on this subject.

I actually intend to probably get a prelude tranny in the future but am curious to what tranny i have now. Thanks MadCityLude

I did some searching and can't find anything, I am gonna guess that it is a JDM or European Accord tranny though. With the long gears your speaking of and the fact that it hasn't been talked about in the Prelude forum here at all.

Thats what i concluded as well, just wanted to check with others as well...what is the redline?

Also after doing some research i have found out that the P2U5 is an accord tranny (as i suspected) it is also known as the "f22a6". Here are the gear ratios:

F22a6 (p2u5)
1-3.307
2-1.809
3-1.185
4-.933
5-.685
FD-4.062

And here is where i got my answer:

The upside is you have a higher topspeed than those of us with H22 5 spds, not to mention better gas mileage. The downside is how often you do you need to go over 130mph & your acceleration isn't as good as it could be.

Thats the bad, my acceleration is not what i want it to be I do get good mileage due to the longer gearing but i rather sacrifice that for better acceleration.

I am not planning on going turbo or nitrous as this would be a beautiful candidate for such application. I am not one to accelerate to top speed and would rather have a better low to midrange setup. Oh well.

Thanks everyone.

Actually, gas milage is more closely related to throttle position over engine RPM. However, lower RPM's = less engine wear. Anyway, what does your engine stamp say. H22A (JDM)? H22A1 (USDM 4th gen)? H22A4 (USDM 5th gen)?

It has a "H22A" stamp on there. But if it were a jdm, would it not have the type-s head v.s. the p13 i have now?

I mean it does have a red valve cover but it could be aftermarket so thats why i am intrigued in finding out.

It being JDM doesn't make it a type 'S' head, the standard JDM engine has the same head as the USDM engines, just a slightly "hotter" cam. Type 'S' heads are stamped P5P.
