"my first write up, tell me what you think" How To: bumper lights on all the time
Ive had somebody ask me about how to do this, so i figure that i would try my hand at a write up. Comments and questions are welcome. So here it goes.
The only materials you will need is a pair of brake light bulb sockets with wires from an 88 to 91 crx civic. There might be other body styles that carry this socket but i used them from a junk 91 crx. you might also need some spare wire to reach long enough.
1. first your going to have to make the sockets fit in the bumper light housings. its not hard if you have a dremal, or even a small file would work, just so you can take a small amount of plastic off the detents that keep the socket from turning.
The first 3 pic are the orginial without modification.
This next pic is of the orginal socket and wires.
The colors are:
black----Ground
Red with a black tracer-------low wattage filliment
Green with a white tracer------High wattage filliment
ill explain where they go later
The next 2 pics are after modification.
You have to take the material off so that the socket will turn in the housing.
there are only 3 basic connections you have to make. The first two are the easiest.
2.cut the orginal bumper bulb socket out. there will be two wire there 1 blue and one black wire. the blue is hot and the black is ground.
3.connect the green wire from the new socket to the blue wire.
4.connect both the black wires together, this is a common ground for both filliments.
you can kinda see the connections hrere although i was lazy and did this a year ago and didn't feel like ripping off the tape. at the top of the picture you can see the blue and black wires.
5. you have to run the red wire up to the corner light to get power for the low wattage filliment. your connection will be made to the light that doesn't blink at all, the one twords the front of the car. there will be a red wire with a black tracer and 2 black wires.
6.connect the red wire from the new socket to the red wire from the corner light.
here you can see the wire from the new socket coming from the left and the 3 orginal corner light wires going into the corner light socket.
7. step back and enjoy
i also have a video if somebody can tell me how to like it so nobody can get into my account.

i was just wondering y does it have to be the brake light bulb sockets? Can it be any other bulb socket? And also cant you use the orignal bumper signal socket to do this and wats the difference between them??? Sorry for the questions if i had my car with me i would take a look at it but its some place far far away.

you have to use a socket that uses a two filliment bulb, 1157. the orginial one for the bumper light only has one filliment. the brake light bulb socket is the only other one i found on the car that uses an 1157 bulb. basicially you need a "high beam" and a "low beam" . im sure you could rig up something with a relay and the orginial 1 filliment socket/bulb that runs off the corner bulb that blinks, but then i would blink super fast like there was a blub out or something. plus i think it would melt the plastic housing, and with my set up your using a lower wattage filliment so theres no problem with melting the plastic.

So even though there on with your lights, they still are used as blinkers?
That would make sense as to why you'd need a two filliment bulb- one for 'running lights', and one for the blinking action...
right?
great thread, definatly bookmarked.

Edit: And btw, http://www.putfile.com is a great video-hosting site. it's really straight forward, and 100% free.
Edit #2: Heres a diagram I whipped up to help everyone(hopefully you don't mind.. I'm not trying to jack your thread, just trying to help):
Enjoy

the blinker will be just at bright as the orginial because basically your using the same wattage filliment for the blinker, just your adding a lower wattage filliment for a "running/parking" light

you mean the corner light? if you would just wire a single filliment bulb into the corner light there would be 2 problems
1) the turn signals would flash quickly like there was a bulb out
2) i think with that wattage of bulb constantly lit it will melt the inside of the housing, or at least there would be a risk of it. i thought this was a better soultion, and you can use oe parts
