Default CARB Smog Problems

Hey I was wondering if anyone else has gotten crap for having CARB parts on our cars.

My 02 civic has a v2 intake, 4-1 DC headers, and an evo2 cat-back on it.

The prick at the smog place said I needed to bring in documentation that these are exempt parts EVEN WITH all the carb stickers on. He marked me as failed and pissed me off because I haven't heard of anyone with this problem.

Shit. I've gotten pulled over half a dozen times for the cops to look under the hood (gets a lot of exposure being as its my commuter) and they harassed me a little but never sent me to smog or to the reff.

Do I really need to print up the CARB info from the Air Resource Board website or is it a load of crap? Also, anyone else have a problem like this?

yeah. I'm definitely going somewhere else. It just pissed me off that the guy failed me for nothing. I don't know what that bs was about the documentation either.

what?! as long as all of the parts have the CARB exempt sticker on them, you should be fine. the guy at the smog place probably just doesn't want to pass you. i'd take it to another smog place and get a second opinion; in other words, just get it smogged at another place if you can.

I hate to hear this. A dude doing smog's that don't know his stuff. Probably some rookie!

When we get modded cars in we should verify the CARB stickers numbers with the Air Resources Board website. This is what he is suppose to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All that is required is a carb number on or near the part. Just so you know, we don't care about anything past the cat.

If the CARB numbers are not present then we would require a reciept with a part number. This part number has to match what is on the Air Resources Board website or it is a fail.

If you want to try to get your money back.... Inform that tech that he needs to read up on his aftermarket parts testing and he should read page 58 of the smog check inspection manual. Also inform him to look at appendix K too.

Good luck

PS: By stating the above he will think you are a BAR car / rep and you will have him pooping his pants. If he does I would like a pic!
But seriously, just tell him you are there to get your money back and go somewhere else.

I do smog. Just because it has an CARB plate/sticker doesn't mean anything you can still get nailed for tampering. Also it can fail smog with co,co2,nox,o2 being high with CARB stuff too
