Default HELLLPP!!!! 2005 Honda EX Coupe

Help.... My Honda is acting up and I am having issues and none is agreeing what the problem is. 83,000 miles, gauge says its overheating; but does this sporadically...as a rule stays within normal range. I have not seen any overflow or steam indicating that car is overheating but gauge will go completely off the gauge and then go back down a couple notches and then go back down to normal and then maybe 2 minutes will go by and goes off the gauge again. I have had it pressure tested, reassured not a water pump; and told blown head gasket very very rare on a Honda. It smells like burnt antifreeze when I turn my car off; can find no leaks on pavement; no visual leaks on motor. Have had all fluids flushed; replaced thermostat; and coolant is full. Have seen no grayish color to oil on dipstick. Have seen no bubbles in radiator when car running. Any ideas what is wrong with this car? No white exhaust, no sweet smell at exhaust. Help!! Been to 4 garages and still not fixed. Has shown over heating 2 times in approx. 9 days. So not everyday occurence but scary when it happens to me. Can not see any steam when gauge is showing car is overheating---so wondering about thermostat sticking and or thermostat sensor?

I would have the Coolant Temperature Sensor replaced. It's not uncommon to see them breakdown.

I believe it was a 12 or 14mm deep wall socket or wrench, is all that is necessary.

On this picture ( http://www.hondahookup.com/ima...5.jpg ), there are two necks on the left of the engine that have hoses (normally) connected to the radiator. On the top hose, if you go towards the firewall a small amount, there is a black covered sensor. That is your coolant temperature sensor.

It is number 17 on this diagram:

Well I have ordered a temperature sensor and they got the wrong part. In the meantime. I went to a friends home (12 miles) found that the antifreeze was blowing all over the motor from somewhere..finally decided that it was coming from overflow tank. Talked to another friend and they suggested smelling radiator to see if could smell exhaust fumes in radiator. Radiator cap removed.. could defiantely smell exhaust fumes. Blown head gasket? thats my question. Now mind you-- no lights came on in my car; no check engine; no over heating on the gauge.
But radiator was dry when I checked for exhaust fumes. Help!!!!

without a doubt, you have a blown head gasket. Because of the open deck design of these motors, you'll very rarely see the coolant and oil mix. You will, however, see coolant overflow from the reseviour because cylinder compression leaks into the cooling jackets and forces the coolant out. What makes this condition so difficult to diagnose, is that most tests to determine compression condition are done with a relatively cool engine. but the gasket is only leaking under load on an engine at full operating temp.
