Default OBD 1 B18b Swap into EJ2 not starting!

The swap was a b18b pulled from a running car into civic ej2.

The motor was pulled and sat for about a money before I picked it up and dropped in. Everything is finished but isn't starting now. It cranks and drains the battery like crazy (but it's old anyway) but will not start. The motor just POP's a lot.

My friend said it took a long time for him to warm up his block enough to start when he did his LS swap so it makes some sense.

Things I went over were new plugs, wires, cap/rotor, valve cover and transmission ground cables and it still won't start.

The closest we had was a push start which started the car running (with no electricity for about 20 seconds of nice idling then died)

My friend said my battery could be so beat that it won't fully power the fuel pump or anything else but was wondering if anyone else here encountered the popping phenomenon.
