ok, I am replacing a damaged cluster in my rex
the 4dr(90) was mt as is my rex(91) so I simply swapped the entire cluster I noticed immediately that the tach read much lower than the tach in my old cluster, idle barely moved the needle. I am in the process of moving my speedo to the new cluster and have noticed differences: This is the 4dr cluster ![]() this is a detail of the circuit behind the speedo (4dr) ![]() pc version (4dr) ![]() ******* This is my orig CRX cluster ![]() Detail behind speedo (crx) ![]() PC version (crx) ![]() ******* These are the modules from the back of the clusters 4dr(top) crx(bottom) ![]() as you can see they connect differently. The 4dr module does not connect to the cluster, it has a light off of it (the cruise light) The CRX module connects to the cluster, it is the speed sensor amp. ********* Now the reason I am asking about all this...... this is trace #1 C710 on orig cluster (rear of cluster, behind speedo) ![]() I have traced that circuit and cant find what caused it. I think a prev owner's stereo install shorted somthing. also one of the bulb sockets has lost its retainers so, both the pc and the white plastic body have damage. ***** what I am wondering is if there are other differences than the single trace behind the speedo??? If that is the only difference then I plan on cutting the trace in the 4dr cluster detailed above and soldering the diode in place of it as it is in the crx cluster detail.

the trace in question is on the back of the speedo, not the tach #2 everything is always a money option, or does daddy buy your toys for you? #3 I dont want to mount gauge pods. #4 If you dont have an answer, dont give an answer #5 Thank you for replying

But guys come on If someone says "I have this ... How do I fix it?" Saying "Why dont you just get another" IS NOT answering their question.

Hi there. What I can tell you FOR SURE is that when I swap a 4dr cluster into my CRX before the only real issues I had were with the seatbelt warning light. This is because of the different modules on the back. The speedo you shouldn't have to swap from your CRX. It should work fine. As for the tachometer, it is possible that the tach on the 4dr cluster is/has been calibrated differently than how it should be calibrated for the CRX.
In short, I ended swapping the modules. You should put the CRX module on the back of the 4dr cluster and everything (minus the tach) should work fine. At least that's what ended up happening with me. Hope this helps.

WWOOOOWWWW
now THAT is a great response!! Thanks for the info The plastic chassis had a broken bulb socket so I had to use the chassis from the civic which meant I had to do a full swap of hdwr. What I did was: 1 stipped the chassis of the cluster to a bare piece of white plastic I pulled the circuit sheet from the posts on the back of the chassis (Note: upon having both sheets loose I could compare them thoroughly and found there were MANY differences that are not subtle.) 2 I put the crx sheet on the civic chassis (the chassis are identical) 3 moved the large red lense from the old chassis to the new one (this is the crx's seatbelt light) 4 put all my old hdwr into the new chassis (along with the civic's temp/fuel assy) 5 put it all back in the car I used my speedo because I wanted to keep the odo, I wanted to use the civic pc sheet because of a damaged trace on my orig sheet but that trace aint gone, yet. so I will save the civic sheet to grab that part of the circuit from. I cant mig/tig/arch, but thankfully I can fab circuitry when cornered I thank everyone for their responses, especially the helpful one.
