Friends Car is Possessed, Radio issues. - Honda-Tech

Ok. Last night my friend and I were going to starbucks. I park my car and walk around the corner to his house because we were taking his car. He has a VW jetta. I know this is the wrong place but I figured this may be a general electrical issue. Ok I was hanging outside his house waiting for him and all of a sudden his car radio just turns on. No key in the ignition. He left his ipod connected to the radio. Ipod was on but no key in the ignition because he went in his house to get something. I asked him and he said sometimes it does that.

What could it be? As we were driving back home the radio would just cut off and you have to hit power again to turn it on. Could it be fuse related? Could it be electrical issue related. Sorry I didn't want to sign up to a VW forum to ask this and figured somebody would know something. Thanks.

What is thew make and model of the HU, [radio]?

I want to say a 99-00 Jetta. That body style. 4DR Automatic Stock Radio. Called him but he didnt pick up. I was looking to see what the problem could be so I could fix it.

It is probably the HUs internal "turn on" circuit, the acc. input to the HU is just a trigger, [like on an amp] all the HUs power comes from the constant 12V+ input, if the trigger circuit is defective it would account for the HU coming on with no key in the ign. and it cutting out when driving.

HU = head unit, [radio, stereo, CD, CD player and so on].

The "turn on" circuit is internal, [inside the HU] so it is unlikely there is anything you can do to fix it.

The acc. input is something you can check, if it is the problem, the ign. switch will need to be replaced, to eliminate, [or confirm] it as the problem you will need to disconnect it from the HU and use a temporary ign. power from some other source, if the problem goes away, [no cutting out or comming on without key in the ign.] the problem is in the ign. switch, if problem still there, the problem is in the HU.

speaking of possessed cars my GF's Hyundai does that.

This started happening after her father passed away. The radio is normally turned off in the car and all of a suddenly the radio turns on for no reason. You turn it off it comes back on and this would repeat for a few times till it finally turns off.

Then when it wants to again it would turn back on.....LOL it's kind of hilarious actually. GL with solving it but I personally think that it's the head unit taking a S$%^ on the Hyundai and your VW.

Just thought I share
