Default Auto-matic door locks

i looked it up on AllData and my 99 civic is suposed to have an auto-matic doorlock remote. The guy i bought the car from said nothing about it so i figured that he had no clue it had one or he lost the remote. is there any special thing i should look into or should i just replace the transmitter and program a new remote for it? any answers for me ???

been down this path before when someone lost my keys while snowboarding... honda charges you like $50 a remote plus the cost of programing it. I had to get keys made too, total $300 for 2 keys and 2 remotes. The keys had the immobilizer chips in it though.

Does your car have an alarm? better off saving some cash and spending $300 to get an alarm installed w/ keyless entry remotes.

Huey, what 99 Civic have you seen with a transponder-based key?

To the OP, you haven't mentioned what trim level your Civic is, but from your screen name, if it's an HX, I don't think it came with keyless, but I could be wrong...

If it did, replacement remotes are very cheap on eBay (just bought one for my mom for $15 shipped a couple of weeks ago).

If it's not factory keyless, we'll need you to see if you can locate an aftermarket keyless module or alarm up under the dash, then see if you can find a make & model number for us...
