Has anyone ever experienced the following with you're 1990 - 1993 Honda Accord.

Storyline:
I was driving down the road at about 15 - 20 MPH when, suddenly; the engine
compartment sounded like a grenade went off in it; and the car jolts for a second but keeps going.
I got out of the car after quickly parking it. I walked around the car to check for debris, and this was a new neighborhood so the streets were relatively clean. Nothing but a 10 FOOT trail of tranny fluid.
So...I hopped back into the car, placed it in gear (at this point I was curious as to if it was going to move under its own power again), it moves in drive four (D4), but not to quickly as it is almost out of tranny fluid completely.
Realizing the importance of not damaging the fully electronic transmission anymore, I place it in neutral and have a friend tow me home.
When I get home; with the car parked and the shift - lock release disengaged, I run it through the gears {1-2-D3-D4-N-R-P} and back again. The shift lever gets stuck and faces resistance going into very first gear, but it does not do that in any other gear; nor does it make any strange noises.
FACTS:
The engine is an F22A1 with the electronic stock auto transmission.
The vehicle is a 90 HONDA ACCORD LX 4DR 2.2L 4SPD AUTO CB7_5chassis
Mileage: 173,838
The fluid in the auto has been replaced at some point to my knowledge due to the fact that it was pretty clean.
I do bi-weekly checkups on the fluid and limited life components on my vehicle.
The CV joints and boots are brand new as of June14-08 as are the halfshafts.
The car has NEVER been wrecked, or owned by a teenager (same thing).
No hard turns, rolling and putting it in park/reverse has never happened, and never drove with E-brake engaged.
I think this could be a seal, as there is NO visible case damage on the transmission.
The leak is coming from the bottom of the tranny around a rectangular cover.
Bear in mind that it sounded like a bomb went off in the engine compartment.
