92 Accord Engine mod Help and Info Needed!« » Reply  Edit

Hi folks,
I have a 92 Accord LX Coupe, I believe it has a f22a1, not 100 % sure, it could be a f22b, not sure of the difference yet. In any case, this is my first Honda project car, I have already dropped a stage 3 chip in, a cold air intake, new high flow cat, and muffler, and coilovers. I have done all the routine stuff, new plugs, wires, blah, blah, blah. Adjusted all the rockers. Next on the list is a new adjustable cam gear, maybe a new cam, strut support. Ido have a 3 speed auto though, and I may swap it out for a manual later down the road. I am also going turbo as well. So my main two questions are, How easy is it to do a tranny swap, from auto to manual? and, What turbos can I use from other vehicles, instead of buying new, and what is required for the turbo add on?
Please keep in mind, I am mechanically inclined, but never swapped out a tranny, or messed with turbo before.
Thanks!
PS: Any other mods to increase performance on this car is aslo appreciated

Your questions seem sorta general so you should do some more research and then come back with more specific questions as I'm sure some will be answered and you'll have a better understanding of things.

if you are going to go turbo, start researching in the FI forum here on H-T.

as for the auto-to-manual swap, take a look in the FAQ. There is a how-to on a 94-97 Accord, not exactly the same but it'll give you an idea.

I wouldn't get just a cam gear without upgrading the camshaft as well. And if you are certain you are going to go turbo then maybe you should hold off on the cam until the turbo and get one that is meant for turbo engines rather than having to upgrade again later? just a thought...

Hey thanks for the info. Sorry about the general questions, I guess I just wanted to know if it was worth it or not. The turbo that is. I have heard the f22's are great motors to mess with, especially when it comes to turbo. Not to go off topic to far, but do you guys know of any auto tranny mods out there for the hondas? I know you can get shift kits for GM, ford, etc, for the autos, but have never found any for hondas!

yes, turbo can be worth it and the F series engines are good for it.

for the trans, I want to say a company by the name of Level 10 did some stuff for auto trans but I dont recall if they did any Accord trans or how much there stuff costs. But you would probably be best with just doing a tranny swap and not messing with trying to upgrade parts of the auto tranny.

Thanks guys, I checked out all the info, and it was a big help. I think, I will hold off on the tranny stuff, til I get a manual for it. The turbo set ups are super sweet, but a chunk of cheddar to buy, so that wil be my next upgrade, but not before I have the engine rebuild done. Thanks
