also, the previous owner drove it on dirt roads a bit. perhaps causing a wheel bearing to wear??

If u must know, the car is a 02 accord 2dr, f23a4 5spd,mint and all stock

the easiest way to find which bearing it is, is to "load" each bearing. what i mean by this is turn your car to the right, to get a majority of the weight to the left side of the car. If the noise gets louder when you load the left side(turn to the right) than the left rear wheel bearing is bad, if the noise gets quieter, than it is the left. do the same thing turning left(loading the right side) if the noise get louder it would be the right rear, and if it gets quieter, it is not the problem.

it is posible to have both wheel bearings go bad, so if it gets louder while loading either side, then it would be both.

The bearing is easy to change on your car, especially if its drum brakes. However, you will need a large socket that doesnt come in most socket sets. Its either 32 or 36mm. I am pretty sure its 36 since that is what the front is, but it may be a 32.

If you have drums, remove the wheel, relove the drum, pop off the dust cap and unbolt it. Retorque it to 170ft-lbs. Try to use a torque wrench cause too much or not enough preload on the bearing causes more wear.

If you have rear disc, you need to remove the caliper and bracket assebly (2 14mm bolts) and set it aside, pull the rotor off and then unbolt the hub/bearing assembly.
