Default Replacement Tires for 04 Accord Coupe EX 4-cyl

I have about 70K on my stock BS Turanza's and will be needing new tires soon. I do not want to pay $200 a piece for new Turanza's. Are there any other good options that would be nearly as good of a tire but more along the line of $125 a piece? I don't need V speed rating; H is fine. I'll need 205/60R16 all season tires. Please advise. My email is mervmurry@yahoo.com. Thanks for your help.

I'll assume these are going onto your stock 16" wheels; your stock tires are 205/60-16 and you'll need tires the same size. I'll also assume, based on your location, that you will be using these year-round, including occasional snow in the winter as well as in moderate to warm temperatures the rest of the year - in which case you'll need all-season tires.

The Tire Rack lists 14 tires in this size in their "high performance all-season" and "ultra high performance all-season" categories (click here) and all of them are priced $108 or less. Unfortunately, the very best all-season tires aren't available in this size. You might be able to get away with the Kumho ASX (better than all of the above) if you get the 225/55-16 size ($79); I would suggest discussing the options with the knowledgeable folks at the Tire Rack and going with what they recommend.

Thanks. I also looked at the Kumho Solus KH16 which appears to be a very good tire. If I buy from tirerack.com, what do I do to have them installed? I just don't know the process...

Well... it's in the Tire Rack's "Grand Touring All-Season" category, which means its performance isn't all that great. And it's nowhere near as good as the ASX. Here, look at how Kumho pictures them in its product segmentation diagrams:

Your choice, though.

You can have them installed (mounted and balanced) just about anywhere - your dealer, your independent mechanic, your local tire shop. Some of these places don't mount tires purchased elsewhere, but others do, no problem. Most places charge $10-25 per tire to mount and balance. I've had tires (purchased elsewhere) mounted and balanced at Wal-Mart's tire department and they did a good job (and they're at the low end of that price range). The Tire Rack has a lot (over 1000, I think, maybe a lot more) recommended installers across the country, and if you want, you can use one of them; you can find ones in your area by typing your zip code into their website (here). If you use one of their recommended installers, you have the option of having the tires shipped there instead of to yourself (either way is possible). Shop around, though, as some of the recommended installers are quite expensive for mounting/balancing; others are not. Price ranges are shown on the TR website but you may need to call them and discuss to find out exactly how much they'll charge.
