Default Polishing my aluminum wheels...a few specific questions...

I realize there have been a few threads on this in the past...but i have a few questions for the experts.

First, I've stripped the wheels and sanded two of them with 600 grit sandpaper.

I'm thinking 1000 grit and then 2000 grit after this...

My question, have any of you had any luck using a type of rotary tool to get in the corners of the wheel? i'm having a hell of a time sanding the spokes where they meet the outer wheel...and each rotary attachment i have seems to be a bit too big.

any suggestions would be great...

Here are a few pics of the progress so far...

left is polished...right isn't...

not polished...

polished...

sanded face of this wheel with 220 and then 320 grit. next is 400 grit. all machined concentric rings have been eliminated.

here are a few pics.

one pic, polished, with 600grit

this wheel is polished up to 2000 grit...then buffed...

I have never done this before but maybe a big cloth buffing wheel with the right polishing compound would work. Just a thought

Please tell me you have read this sticky at the top of the page
FAQ: how to polish your wheels

Cheers and good luck

yeah, i read through that thread...

so far...it doesn't seem like there is a rotary accessory which would work...

i'm just having some trouble getting into the corners of these wheels.

I just helped paint some of those wheels a month or so ago, I wanted my friend to polish the lip but he refused, they looks really good.

I'm not sure if its worth noting...

but i just ordered 800, 1000, 1500 grit sandpaper from ACE hardware. 1.60/sheet and they'll have 25 sheets in stock of each grade.

i'm hoping this is all i need to finish the wheels.

Are you going to clear coat them afterwards to help keep them clean?

i've been looking at a few different products designed to protect raw aluminum.

my main concern is "yellowing" over time.

you can use those "flopper wheel" for your dremel or even regular drill.

they still them all size and grit.

they are very handy for hard to reach spot

i have been to every hardware store in this area and can't seem to find what you're talking about. i

I am currently working on polishing up my LS Mesh wheels, and I am going back and forth between the Dremmel and my hand......I have used several different attachments, but none seems to be that great - The Dremmel works well in certain spots, but I hear you about not being able to reach in small areas (places that the LS Mesh have plenty of).........if you have a revelation and it works, let me know.....I'll do likewise. Otherwise, your wheels look good - keep up the good/hard work!
