polished my Si wheels
I got bored a few weeks ago and decided i needed a change of wheels so i just decided to polish my si's.. figured i would try to do something different in my area hah.. now maybe i can trade them off a little easier
Here are some pics of the first wheel and how it turned out.. 3-4 hours of stripping, sanding, and polishing. Let me know what you think.
we did one spoke just to see how it was gonna turn out because i was not to sure about it.
Coated in polish. Used that mothers mag and aluminum wheel polish and one of the buffer pads out of a headlight lens restore kit from autozone with a power drill.. ended up hand polishing them again after.
Finished
On the car with center cap
Up close in the garage.. not a hole lot of light. LOOKS ALOT BETTER IN PERSON IN MY OPINION.
grits used, I was able to take out some of the scratches and curb rash during this.
started the sanding here
and here are the other three wheels
And here is what they look like on the car after i got them all done. Just need to get them cleared.. I will probably go over them again with a high grit and some more polish before i do get them cleared though thanks to the salt from the roads around here
TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK ? ?

Re: polished my Si wheels
Can you please explain the process. Im being sold some SI stocks cheap. However they need a lot of work!!! Do you start with a heavy grit and work your way up with the grit #. I've never polished anything, and sanding has been very minimal!

Re: polished my Si wheels
this took a total of maybe 20 hours.. i could have spent longer and taken my time but its my only car and my only set of wheels.. once i pick up another car hopefully this month i will take them off and go over them again
i started off with some rustoleum clear coat remover to strip off the clear on the wheels, then started sanding with a lower grit like 320.. i went down to like a 120 on the little lip because it had alot of curb rash, then just worked my way up to 2000.. i started wet sanding when i hit 800 grit and then after i was done sanding i went over it with a buffer pad and a drill with rubbing compound and then back over it with a aluminum polish.. then i cleaned off what was left with some windex lol they came out nice until it snowed here and all the salt on the roads kkinda killed it

Sounds easy enough. Also sounds like a lot of work! A wheel a night, they'll be ready in no time. What do you mean kind of killed it? Do you mean their just dirty again....or did the snow kill the whole job?

Re: polished my Si wheels
i think he is talking about salt corrosion
they look really nice.
you shouldnt have to sand and buff again for the salt, just wash, if the salt left little marks just buff them agian and it should remove the marks
