This is a copy+paste of another post I'd made when someone was asking about DOT legal drag radials. Hope you find it helpful...

As you know, I'm an engineer for Dunlop Tires. We have a DOT legal drag radial called the SP Sport Inferno.

About a month ago, I personally organized a Demo event for this tire @ Norwalk Raceway Park during an Import test & tune night. I was able to get 2 guys to run on these tires...BOTH of them cut > 0.5 seconds off of their ET. And both of them were very happy w/the tires. One car was a pretty stock 02 Si, the other was a 13-second fwd-Eclipse turbo. The Eclipse's times were night and day differences, he loved the things....

:: fwd-turbo Eclipse on street tires ::

60' time - 2.40
1/4 time & ET - 13.94 @ 103.18mph

:: fwd-turbo Eclipse on Dunlop SP Sport Inferno ::

60' time - 2.14
1/4 time & ET - 13.40 @ 105.10mph

Here is word-for-word what the eclipse driver wrote on my comment sheet that night...

"Awesome radial tire - a must have. Had Mickey Thompson ET Drag and went 13.52. No other mods, just the Dunlops, and went 13.40"

The driver of the 2002 Si also had good things to say....

"I want these tires! Running at a low PSI (we had him ~25psi) and this tread design was remarkable. By far the best feeling race tire I have ever run. I can't wait to have a set in my own garage. They virtually removed all wheel hop and allowed for a launch I didn't think was possible."

I can't comment on how these tires will wear on the street. I'm in the process of trying to get the wheels & tires that I Demo'd onto my car to drive around this summer to see for myself how they will wear. If I pull that off, I'll be sure to report back to everyone on the board about my experiences.

Currently, this tire is only available in a 205/50R15 size, and it retails for $115. The distributor I worked with @ the track was Jim Harlow. He sells them, and ships them across the country. http://www.harlowracing.com for contact info...Inferno's aren't listed online but you can call him to order.

I have some more info about sizes coming out soon, PM me if you're interested, I'd rather not share it w/the entire board.

Thanks!

Matt
