Greater chance of rubbing, might not be able to fit on your rims, chances are the overall diameter will be affected, and the tires probably cost more.

Why do you want to run wider tires?

Well, first of all, it depends on exactly which sizes you're comparing. For example, the tire with the wider tread may or may not have a larger diameter, depending on the aspect ratio.

Gas mileage won't be significantly different, although the size can affect the accuracy of the speedometer and odometer, so the indicated miles could differ when the actual miles don't.

Handling is typically more a function of the make and model of tire rather than width. So if you're looking for better handling, concentrate on getting better, stickier tires, rather than wider tires. Availability of the stickiest, best handling tires can vary by size. For example, the Falken Azenis RT-615 is just about the stickiest street tire you can use on dry pavement. For Integras with 15" wheels, the Azenis in 205/50-15 will give you better handling than any tire available in 215/50-15, but for 16" wheels, the Azenis in 215/45-16 will give you better handling than any tire available in 205/45-16. For older Civics, the Azenis in 205/40-16 will give you better handling than any tire available in 215/40-16. As you can see, you really need to focus on getting better tires, rather than wider tires.
