I do NOT recommend mounting tires on wheels that are too wide for them. It's unsafe, and just a bad idea all around.

Get wheels that are the right size for your car. For your car, 215/50-17 is the best 17" size. 225/45-17 is too small in diameter (as well as too wide). Most 215/50-17 tires are approved for rims 6.0-7.5 inches wide. NOT for 17x8.

i went with the 215/45/17 ze912's.... i def. could have fit a 225 maybe even a 235 all the way dumped on tein-ssp's in the 7th gen accord coupe wheel wells.

anyone with 17x8 TL wheels, i hope this gives you guys some info. and a starting point when your looking for tires... im also eager to see if anyone else with a similar ride height as mine that has 17x8 TL's, what size tires they are running... i would love to see what a 225/45/17 looks like and a 215/50/17 looks like as well... if anyone has some pics of these sized tires on TL 17x8's post them up in here if you feel like it.

ill have pics up this weekend of my car hopefully.

Man that 2006/2007 accord looks hot on those TI wheels. Is the car lowered?

Glad I found this discussion - I just today bought a set of 17" Acura TL wheels, just like the ones on the gray accord pictured above. Wasnt sure if I'd keep em or sell them. But - yes they do look awesome on that accord!

I have a 2001 accord V6 with five lug wheels. I was worried about width, but I tried one on my car and it did seem to fit.

Now, for correct height - tire size - I ran a comparison on one of those tire size calculators and I came up with 235 45 17 as the closest in height. But, 215 50 17 was the tire size used by the TSX for these wheels (at least that's what Costco tells me- maybe i have the wrong car?). But the 235 45 17 looks like it fits well...

Actually, 215/50-17 is a slightly closer match to the outer diameter of your stock size:

205/65-15: 25.49" (stock)
215/50-17: 25.46" (-0.1 percent)
235/45-17: 25.33" (-0.7 percent)

However, the TX wheels are 17x8 and that's too wide for 215/50-17. Most 215/50-17 tires are only approved for mounting on wheels 6.0-7.5 inches wide.

235/45-17 tires are fine on 17x8 - they're approved for widths of 7.5-9.0 inches - but it's possible they might rub due to being 30 mm wider than stock. You'd have to try them out.

You'd be much better off getting some 17x7 wheels and 215/50-17 tires. Those should fit without any problems, as long as they're the proper offset for your car.

You're right - I was mistakenly thinking these wheels came from a TSX when they really came from a TL. My bad! I think 235 45 17 is the size I need...

Now to find a good used set on craigslist!

You're better off with 215/50-17, if you want to be sure to avoid problems.

Ahh now I see what youre saying - and yes youre right I was thinking my current size was 195 65 15 but its really 205 65 15. And yes 215 50 17 does sound like a very close diameter match!

But, these wheels like you say may be too wide for me. They do seem to clear (I tried one on) and they did fit that 2005 accord OK - but who knows on my 2001 - might be cutting it too close. i tried one on and it did seem to fit, but who knows once I got a set of tires on there. That'd be an expensive mistake to make.

Oh well, maybe its back to the drawing board for me.

Next question - anyone need a set of 5-star TL rims?! A few minor blemishes, but I will let them go for a good price...lol

nsxtasy,

what all season tires (brand, model) do u recommend for a 2006 v6 Accord? The stock rims are 17x7 I believe, and the tires are Michelin Pilot Sport MXM4 215/50/17. I'm trying to avoid buying the same tires as I don't believe the performance is worth the price tag on them. I did get 43k+ out of these tires though haha and still going lol.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, at $197/tire, the Michelin is quite pricy. There are lots of excellent all-season tires in 215/50-17. The one I most often recommend is the Kumho Ecsta ASX - not because it's the very best, but because it's very good and it's also very affordable ($94/tire). Another excellent all-season is the Goodyear Eagle GT, which is a bit better than the ASX and only a little more expensive ($109). Both of these are very good all-seasons at a nicely affordable price. You can see a side-by-side comparison test of the ASX and the Eagle GT on the Tire Rack website at http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=113

Just to throw out one more recommendation, if you're willing to spend a bit more money than either of these (although still less than the Michelin stock tire) for one of the very best all-seasons on the road, consider the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position ($158).

The Potenza is nice but I think I'm gonna stick with the Goodyear Eagle GT. The Potenza does seem better in all aspects other than light snow/heavy snow traction where they seem to be pretty much even.

Also, the Continental ContiExtreme Contact doesn't seem too bad showing 35 million miles reported and is priced well at $105 per tire also.

Thanks nsx.
