Default 185/65/14 vs 185/70/14

I run 65/14 but can get 4 winter tires in a 70/14 for cheap. does it really matter with that middle number?

What car are these tires going on? The middle number regards your sidewall height, so it very well could be an issue under the right given circumstances.

If your car is lowered, you should run the 65 size.
A 70 sidewall may be too tall and could rub inside the fender.

You should be fine putting the 70-series tires on there. Its right at 3% oversized for the car, which is the maximum I would go for tire sizing.

What about if I a set of rims that require a tire size of 205/50/16? would they fit?

i can get a good deal of a set of summer tires.

The car dictates what size tires you run more so than the wheels you are using. There is really no set tire size for a specific wheel. 205/50/16's would fit fine on the car, to answer your question directly.

gotcha i didnt know.. i was just confused cause you said that the 185/70/14 might rub so i thought that since i was jumping up 2 sizes of rims that they would automatically rub? is my logic flawed haha?

Very.

Go read the FAQ and actually learn how tire sizing works.
