we just did this yesterday. mig welding isnt the prettiest but you can get by with it. this is my powerstroke diesel exhaust that we straight piped. didnt want to waste the time prepping it and cleaning it to be tig welded so we just mig welded it.

as for 110v mig welders, dont waste your money. save a bit more for a 220.

That is an ignorant statement. A Mig is fine for making an exhaust.

To the OP: buy a used 220v welder; you will be a lot happier. There are some killer deals on Craigslist these days.

Im not gonna lie, my first welder was a 110v gasless mig from sears. I have made several mild steel exhausts with it, and although they are not prettiest welds, they work just fine. I wouldnt use it to make a manifold or anything like that. hell I still use that welder around the shop to take care of little stuff like welding hangers back on exhausts and fixing broken or rusted out pipes and anything else that just needs to stick 2 pieces of metal together. I think I paid around 100$ for that thing, but it was years ago and I had a sears employee discount and some craftsman club coupons.

if your just starting out and want to learn then a more expensive machine will be easier, but if your just a light hobbiest that might use it only a few times a year ,than just buy what you can afford
