Default Some intake manifolds I've been working on. And a few other things I make

This is non honda but I still thought you guys would like it. All these manifolds are for 1991-1995 Toyota Mr2's. This what i posted on another forum.

Over the next couple weeks I'll be building another straight runner manifold for a customer (I bet he'll chime in). This one will be for a third gen. Since the 3rd gen intake ports are so close to the size of the RMR oval tubing I decided to run their tubing and plenum stacks. The head flange was also purchased from RMR.

Enjoy.

I worked on the manifold for a little bit today. I cut the plenum and runners to length I also cut the runner holes in the plenum base. I dont have a mill so cutting the holes takes a good amount of time and patience. Since hole saws are not accurate due to their wobbly nature I'm forced to buy a smaller o.d. saw and make it a snug fit with a die grinder. It takes a while but turns out perfect every time.

After a long Sunday its done!

Welding this part was actually a little challenging. I use 1/8 plate for the plenum base to keep the weight down but it makes welding the much thicker v-stacks a little difficult without melting the 1/8 too much.

Sand it smooth for a nice smooth transition. I normally wouldn't do this but I thought it was a nice touch.

I use a old 3rd gen head like a heat sink during the flange welding. It helps keep the flange from warping and allows me to weld longer before the whole thing gets too hot to handle.

Here is the neat little manifold brace I made. Looks like it should work good.

So after a lot of thinking and a little math I decided to try a new plenum design. It took a while to get a piece of round pipe shaped this was but I think it turned out nice. The plenum is one piece of metal so no welds have been sanded off here.

After great success with the manifold I made for my own car Mr2Josh contacted me wanting one for himself. I love building manifolds like this even tho it takes a good about of time and patience. The plenum is made from 4.5 inch 14 gauge pipe and the runners are 2 inch .120 wall tube. I designed the "runner humps" myself back when I made my first intake manifold. I had 12 of them made so I still have 4 more if someone wants a manifold . This is not a cheap piece the material is expensive and I put in some hard work.

I still need to clean up the ports, weld on the 75mm throttle body flange and clean up the outside. The angle of the throttle body will change a little before I weld the flange on.

Hope you enjoy.

Josh will be glad to hear I finished his manifold today. Not pictured is the short piece of swedged tubing to brace the manifold to the block. I also made a neat stainless bracket to hold the rod end on the block side. A lot of time goes into making manifolds like this but I seem to get better each time. I hope this manifold works as well as it did for me....if so get ready to receive gobs of torque .

Making odd shapes smoothly turn into round is one of the hardest processes during the manifold build.

Here is another intake manifold exhaust manifold and intercooler setup I built for my 700hp mr2

Most of these vids are 19 psi on pump gas making about 500hp

This is a pull to around 100 mph and back down to 35mph quickly.

Idk how much i like the intake manifold in the trunk thing, but the fab looks very nice.

Thank you. The reasoning behind the intake manifold in the trunk is if you try to make a straight runner manifold without cutting the trunk you end up with 3-4 inch runners and no torque. I know Hondas dont make much for torque anyways but with the 2.2 liter stroker I was making 525 ft lbs :D

Have you tried anything with a shorter runner? it would be interesting to see some comparisons! Fab work looks great!

The white hatch is my buddies. I do fab work for PTP yes.

Other guys have done short runner manifolds and I just wasnt impressed. The lack of torque and added lag is just not worth the 20-40hp past 8000rpm. Mr2 transmissions dont like to shift past 8500rpm anyways.
