As for this project, the previous picture shows the design work done on our mold plug. To begin the mold we first apply a mold release wax, then spray a PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) mold release to ensure trouble free part removal after cure.
Once dry, we use a gel coat cup gun to spray Orange Tooling Gel Coat. After that a tooling dough fillets reinforce the detail. Next many layers of Chopped Strand Mat are applied and the mold is finally capped with a fiberglass Tooling Fabric specifically made for molds.
Fast forward past cure and removal, we have a production level mold ready for combat.

Nice work!!! Hey dude I got a few people wanting a crx roof!!!! If you like I can send them your way. I have too much work coming in from the evo world right now. A couple people on here were wanting deletes made as well for the crx.

My buddy's wife wrecked their CRX the very first time he let her drive it to work, so just by chance I ended up with it. I just got it up to the shop yesterday to begin preparing and planning the mold design. I found out the Harbor Freight windshield removal tool is really a decoy, not tough enough for actual use... Lol.
A brick and a sawzall will get the job done though.
I plan to have the roof project completed by, and debut at 'Rimz and Ribz' and 'Blox Evolution'.

As for the timing cover, it should be only days until it gets laid up in 3k 2x2 Twill weave carbon fiber. Results to follow....

We actually vacuum bag, wet, using strechlon 200 bagging film...
So that allows us to attach just a single layer of bagging film to the flange itself with enough room for the vacuum port.
I have yet to infuse. It seems to me that infusion is more applicable for larger parts, and worry about the volume of epoxy waste considering the cost per gallon. Actually I want to to try laying up with pre-preg, but have concerns about the short shelf life.

I primarily wet lay up too. Infusion does however make better parts. Much less pooling around the radius in tight corners and such. Infusion works well for small parts.
Ooa prepreg is nice too! There are a couple places that sell drops at a reasonable price.

After fighting multiple bag leaks we were able to get the first part laid up successfully. Here is the part popped from the mold moments ago....

Wow that's nice! Any chance you could make one with a hole cut out to adjust cam gear? Rather have it cut prior to final glass or what ever the process is.. Thanks

What resin system are you using??? I have a bagging material that is stretchy, can handle 200 degrees and be used multiple times. I can get usually 5-6 pulls out of one envelope bag. Saved tons of money not wasting tacky tape and film. If you are interested I will send you a couple yards to play with.

Dallas: We use West System Epoxy Resin and the Special Clear Hardener.
