Slip fit exhaust, how do I do it?
I'm going to hack off my tanabe racing medalion muffler (which is 60mm piping) and leave the axle back portion to mate up with a 2.5 inch vibrant flat black muffler. I basically want to still have the option of running the tanabe muffler or the vibrant muffler by using a slip fit system. How should I go about doing this as far as expanding the axle back section to fit over the tanabe muffler and the vibrant when they are two different sizes? Basically a quick change system for both 60mm and 2.5 inch inlet mufflers and 60mm piping coming all the way back from the cat to the inlet of the muffler.

First of all, you would have to make the part of the muffler sections that you are connecting to the pipe, the same size. In other words, both mufflers would have to be converted to the same diameter piping. Then, maybe use a v-band type of system to connect and disconnect?

Slip fits suck if you plan on taking it on and off. just do it like a normal exhaust and use a two or three bolt flange. That way it wont matter if the pipe are slightly off since you can weld in transitions if needed.

i agree, if you plan on taking the exhaust on and off, slip fit gets to be a pain in the ***. you will fight with it getting it apart for a long time. for the quick way to get an exhaust on and off fast, v-band. but with vband comes good and bad. good: fast, easy, baller. bad: pricy as hell.

Slip fits work great when the exhaust is cool... they come right back aprt. The problem people run into is when using a slip-exhaust and its hot they WILL NOT come apart (very tight seal).
A few questions to get this all straight...
How large is the exhaust piping before the muffler? 60mm correct?
The Tanabe muffer is easy, just get a 60mm slip joint (it will be larger than 60mm so you can slip it on)
2.5" = 63.5mm so, what you'd have to do for the other muffler is get a reducer to fit 60mm BUT have it a slip fit as well. Sounds like a hard thing, but no problem for a qualified muffler shop.
