So I have had Ingalls rear camber kit on my RSX and I was replacing them with SPC recently (no problems, the SPC just looked beefier to me).



The rear camber kit is on the right side of the picture. The upper arm that is angled upwards.

It's connected to the frame by two 17mm bolts, and another 17mm bolt on the hub. Now when I was replacing my old camber kit with the SPC, one of the two threaded holes in the chassis (where the bolt goes in) seems to be messed up. When I screw in the 17mm bolt, it screws in just fine until a certain point where it is just too tight. I'm tightening it even w/ a breaker bar thats like 24" or so and it is tight. I don't keep forcing it in fear of snapping the bolt. I tried the second 17mm bolt, exact same result, it gets tight at a certain point.

I do'nt think the bolts are bad because either bolts screw into the other hole in the frame just fine. This is merely the second time I've removed these bolts, the first time being when I installed the first camber kit which has been maybe 3 years.

What is the problem and how do I fix it? As of right now, I left it on and there's 0.5 to 0.75" more room that the bolt should go in. Car has been driven on but I don't feel safe and I want to fix it asap.

is the bolt too long? like is it bottoming out?

have you tried to tap/chase those thread holes with the propper tap?

the bolt is not too long, they are the original bolts.

no i don't know how to do that. how do I do that and what tools will I need?

a tap (with the same diameter and thread pitch as the 17mm bolts), tap driver (or crecent wrench) and some oil.

You're probably going to have a hard time finding a metric tap that size locally...I just went ahead and got a 77 piece metric tap and die set for working on my car (ordered from a place like enco, MSC, mcmaster, or harbor-freight).

use something to see how far it goes in, then match it with how far the bolt goes in.

use antiseize compound on the threads whenever you put stuff back together. aside from preventing corrosion, it will also help with preventing stripping screws and cross threading them.

Not that I can tell from the picture, but it sounds just like you're cross-threading the bolt in. Pretty much, putting it in on an angle (even slight) causes the threads to start going in and then stop maybe a thread or so in, so as you're forcing it in with the breaker bar, you're actually basically forcing the bolt to make new threads, or smearing the materials together.

If this is the case, you might be lucky and will be able to re-tap the threads and carefully thread a new bolt in, but more than likely you will need to do something more drastic. Perhaps drilling it out and putting a helicoil in, or even cutting out that section of plate with the hole and welding in a new one.

To differentiate whether it is bottoming out, or if the bolt is being cross-threaded. Autozone has automotive grade bolts that you can try if your original bolts get messed up, or if you just wanna try something else to see if it would work.

Is the camber kit side threaded?

not bottom out, but if something is blocking it. There's no reason it shouldn't go all the way in if it did before. Something is holding it back.
