Can i get some tips on welding 16 gauge stainless? The thick stuff i can weld no problem. This thin wall is a bitch.
I also have no foot pedal.
The pipe is only 2" . I can get good color on one 1" pass then i think the whole pipe heat soaks pretty fast and the next pass shows too much heat. Do i need to let it cool down for a few minutes?

I set my amperage and can weld a whole tube with the pedal mashed.
But, If you have any gaps at all with thin wall you're going to have a hard time and it won't look consistent. You shouldn't be able to see light in the joint with a flashlight shining inside the tube.

Not the best pic, but:
I made that manifold, who cares how it looked, it worked! I made it out of water pipe (the log) that I welded to the stock manifold head flange (I grind-ed the stock bit off) and a piece of 3/8" steel plate I cut into a turbo flange.

Re: Post your best welds!!!!!!!
I know it's not the best welding, but I had a good day today in MIG/GMAW class.
First pic, 5/8", 60* groove weld, 1/4" backing strip. Yes it's shitty. It's my first time welding with NR232... 3G (Vertical.) Instructor was pretty impressed that I was able to weave the gap as well as I did. It's ugly but it worked. He suggested next time running 2 smaller weaves to cap it next time.
The others are 3/16" or 1/4" plate, more dual shield welding, can't remember the specs off the top of my head right now. It was pretty easy to run this flat, especially after running the NR232.

Caoboy,
When running dual shield flux core, unless you are washing out your toes, don't manipulate the gun. It looks like you're trying to do some sort of pause and step pattern like you would with hardwire. On flux core, that's a very easy way to roll slag under the puddle. Keep is smooth, and straight.
edit:
not my work, and pulled off a google image search, but if this person had their machine a little hotter, it would have come out perfect.

Do these look better? Same piece as the slag pic. I know it's not 'perfect' but it was my first time running this setup. (I'm taking my first classes)

Not mine. I can't weld. But a friend of mine is all into welding and he showed me these. I was amazed that this is even possible and thought you guys might like to see it.

Re: Post your best welds!!!!!!!
After reading every single post in this thread(took me weeks) along with lots of other Honda-tech stuff, I have finally created an account to say THANK YOU! You guys are great. Such a huge community of knowledgeable people.
Now to ask a question. Which fancy cup should I use? As of the last year I have been using a #8 cup with a standard gas lens on my wp9 flex head torch. I mainly do custom forced induction setups, and a lot of pipe work. My color is pretty good, but not always. I can only weld about an inch at a time.
So, Fupa cup, or toxic cup?
Figured I would ask you guys, as I see the results I'm looking for.
Thank you very much! I will be posting some of my welds soon
