Milller Dynasty 200 dc Tig looking for some feedback any users?
I'm curious if anyone has actually tried to weld any 1/8 - 1/4 aluminum with this unit? How well did it do? How does it weld 1/8-1/4 cast aluminum?
I have a 15 year old Miller syncrowave 350 right now and I absolutely love it but its huge and takes up a ton of space with the cooler and what not. I got the chance to use a new digital style syncrowave 200 dx with dig/pulse control and it seemed really under powered. Maybe I wasnt doing something right.
Thanks for any input
Matt

I'm very interested in that welder as well. Spent a good bit of time looking at it and chatting with the miller people at PRI last week. I have no feedback on actual use (haven't gotten my hands on one yet), but have you played with the AC frequency and wave form controls? Should be able to dial in a good arc that works well on alum of that thickness.

I recently just built a big drop tank for a Ford Falcon (New Zealand car) that was folded out of 3mm aluminum, There was a few bits in it where the baffles sat against the tank bottom/other baffles that was 3mm to 3mm so 6mm joined that took a bit of time before they formed a puddle.
200amps flat out, 2.4mm lanthanated, 2.4mm 4043 filler wire, pure argon. 120hz frequency 80% balance.
Though, I build alot of radiators/intercoolers/inlet plenums, it has more than enough grunt for this.
One thing I regretted about a month after buying my dynasty was not spending the extra and getting the dynasty 350dx. I love my dynasty 200, dont get me wrong.. but if I could do it over again, I'd get the 350.
Cheers,
Scott

The dynasty wil do 1/8" all day, but 1/4" of any decent surface area will be a challenge.
The 350 is such a great machine. Worth every penny.

I agree after using the 350 for a few years now I don't think I could ever drop down to the 200 amp machine unless I started doing more stainless. Currently I do 90% 1/8 and thinner aluminum but about once a month I build a intake manifold with thick flanges. That is where the 350 really shines.
Time to start looking for a good deal on a dynasty350

def spring for the 350, 1/4 is no problem with it, i had a 200 and 1/4 would be VERY difficult unless you use a mix of gas and preheat it.

i weld Al all day with a dynasty 350 & when i have to use the dynasty 200 i get frustrated. i always have to sit there with the pedal floored to get a puddle going or preheat. don't get me wrong the 200 is a great machine, just not for any decent Al jobs. wish i would have bought a 350 for myself instead of a 200. might actually sell mine soon for a 350.

One of my customers bought a 200dx after my recommendation having run 300dx's for 6 years prior to buying all new 350s. His 200 has had numerous warranty repairs and still to this day does not work correctly, as the display went out a month after warranty ended. I wouldn't recommend one.

I love my 200DX.. I'd like to own a 350, however, the price difference just wasn't in my range.. I pay cash for my tools, 7 grand for a tig runner setup is a little steep.. I wish they made a Dynasty 275, that would be the ****..

Honestly, I don't really like mine. The High Frequency is finnicky and it just doesn't have very good bottom end. Below 30amps or so it's just not that stable.
I used to have Thermal Arc 200 that was DC only and it was twice the machine. Only reasons I "upgraded" was I wanted/needed AC.
I have often been tempted to sell it and buy a Thermal Arc Arcmaster 200.
