Yes, for some reason this is one thing I have never bought, how does this kit seem ? Does it seem to cover all the common Honda bolt sizes ?

Thats a tread chaser set.It's only used for cleaning up existing threads.Stay away from sears for tap and die sets.They are low quality.My best experience has been buying the taps I need from MSC online.

Been trying to look at there site but its down. I missed that it was just a chaser, how about this one then, for now atleast. Until MSC is working

To tell you the truth I wouldn't bother with a set.You will rarely ever use a die.Honda uses a lot of pitches that you won't find in a set.The steel that is used in a sears set is crap.You will be lucky to tap a few holes before they are dull.

i agree, just pick up the tap you need at a local industrial supplier. the quality will be much better. some people hate them, but i find blue wizards aren't too bad for most applications. stay away from spiral flute taps since they are best used in cnc applications. also make sure you get some tapping oil to make sure your tap life will be optimized.

I have a big tap and die set from sears. Been using it for 2 years with no problems yet. Only new taps i've bought in the past 2 years are oddball sizes that weren't included. The 1 major tap you'll need for a honda that's not included in the big craftsman set is an M12x1.25 for tranny/motor mount bolts.

I agree.

We are a good sized manufacturing plant that has tried just about every tap vendor around. As far as mixing quality, price, availability its hard to beat MSC. I don't buy anything else from them as I prefer other vendors for everything else. You could spend less than the $80 the Sears kit cost and get everything you need at MSC.

I just checked.... their site is working fine.

Been using mine for a couple of years with no problems. I use them mostly on aluminum but they have worked fine with steel when I have needed them to.

I bought a tap from car quest just to hold me over, how do you guys get the nice area right at the beginning ? Almost like a countersunk screw hole.

The sears over here never has any in stock.

You should really buy at least 2 sets of taps, 2 flute taps for aluminum and plastics and 4 flute for steels and harder alloys. There are also cut taps and bottoming taps which are needed depending on application. For blind holes use a cut tap and finish with a bottoming tap etc.

I dont remember off hand what I used for taps when I was a machinist but for endmills we used fullerton tools and they were the best I have seen. Most of the American tooling companies are really good. Stay away from stuff made in Japan or China.

Believe it or not, Harbor Freight has one of the most complete Ti coated tap and die sets I've seen. I was at a local Porshce shop and saw a nice metric tap/die set and inquired about where they got it - HF! Said they had been using it for years. I bought metric and sae sets from them - both for under a hundred bucks.

I'd have to double check but I'm almost positive that taps/dies and are NOT covered under the lifetime warranty. I believe it's only a 90 day.

Ive just collected taps I needed over the years, but if I needed a particular tap I would just buy one at a time for the local supply house because it would be the right one for the job. I also buy boxes of taps at auctions for $10-50 because large taps are so expensive.

The craftsman set isn't so bad, been using the matco ones and its extactly the same set and works great.
