Well Ive been into guns long before fabrication and owning all the tools i have at my shop kinda opened the doors to what i can do to all my firearms. Biggest thing to me is being able to do Bolt modifications. i first started with polishing parts on my 1911 .45acp. Then adding a "sniper bolt" to my mosin nagant 9130 rifle. Now i am in the middle of building my new rifle (Remington Mode 700 sps tactical) currently awaiting my Mcmillan A-4 stock, badger ordnance M5 trigger and magazine assembly. pretty much trying to build a usmc spec m40a3 rifle. anyways i wanted to start this thread to see who does any type of gun smithing on here and share a few pics of my own work. these pics aren't the best. but you get the idea.

here is the Remington 700 bolt i added a tactical works bolt **** onto.


then cut the factory **** off


Then welded and blended the stud supplied, also drilled and set the stud into the bolt handle so it wont brake off.

sense then i have had the bolt spiral fluted and will be (durabake) coating it my self next week. and will also post pics of the rifle.

here are some of my hand loaded ammo as well.
.308 168grain A-max, 43.5 grains varget powder, federal gold match primer and Winchester brass. ive loaded over 500 rounds and absolutely enjoy it.


anyways. if you have re worked your firearms feel free to share in this thread. i do consider gun smithing to be fabrication, so it fits here.

Love the gun smithing! I have my restricted course and test on September 11th. As of now my next rifle is going to be a Tikka T3 Varmint lefty. I soon will be getting into reloading as I’m starting to see the benefits in some of the other shooters at my range. What kind of press do you have?

I'm not really into guns, I grew up doing archery, but I have spent a lot of time hand building ammo for my dad's hunting trips. It's pretty neat to do.

Yeah hand loading is very fun, out of the box with just a scope and my blend of bullets I'm shooting .35" MOA at 100yards. Couldn't be happier!

Don't know anything about guns, but it must be a crazy market. Our bearing supplier for years recently changed their entire business into packing bullets. Now all they do is pack bullets day and night. Crazy.

Not sure if it would be considered "gunsmithing" but I do love to modify firearms. My first build was my AK-47 Draco Pistol, and it is a riot to shoot and I deffinatley did some custom parts on it, and I would really like to build a saiga 12g for my next gun.

I've built a few firearms as they have been a passion of mine since I was little and my father brought me shooting with him at around 5 years old.


My brother is currently building a M40A3. I have built a couple AK74's, AR15's (really isn't building but assembling). Except my USMC SAM-R replica which had taken some time to bed the receivers. Semi auto 1919A4 Browning's, M1A into a M39 EMR, I'm currently working on rewelding a Bren receiver for a semi auto build. I also modified my Springfield 1911 into USMC MEUSOC spec. Once I have some extra cash I'll be building a tactical 1911 w/ rail, 6" threaded barrel for a Knight's Armament suppressor, custom raised Trijicon sights all on Caspian frame/slide, BAR-STO barrel and a combo of Cyl. & Slide and Ed Brown parts.

I have a few mp5 flats I'm gonna bend and weld, bent up a g3 flat recently and have it sitting around waiting to get welded too. Get your 02/07 ffl and start selling hk uppers, your welding/attention to detail would get real attention.

I really want to build a MP5K but the parts kits are outrageous at $1500+. I would also have to pin the stock since I'm in CT and that would make the weapon an "Assault rifle". I really want a G3 also but since I live in CT and that's on the ban list, I can't own that either.

I'm gonna get one of these stocks instead of a folder, and we can't have SBR's in WA so I'm gonna do a form 1 and make a silencer and attach it permanently as a barrel extension.

i love guns and i wanted to ask what are the tools,schooling and requirement's needed to say buy and modify automatic weapons and build your own

You need to be an 02/07 or 02/10? manufacturer to build them but only can sell to police/military. The easiest way tho is to live in a friendly state and buy a transferable machine gun that was made and registered before 1986. If you live in a friendly state check out gunbroker and look for guns listed as transferable machine guns. Registered m16's will go for 12k-20k, same for drop in auto sears. Around the same pricing for HK guns or sears, more if they are rare or beltfed. One of the cheapest routes to start with tho would be a cobray m11 or something like that. Those are around 3k-4k, and you can get a .22 upper for them for super cheap auto fun.

I started looking into building my own suppressors, I just need a lathe and a mill. Have you checked out Silencertalk.com yet?

i remember their is a federal license i think a type 1 or 2 license that you can get in order to own and im not sure but modify a fully automatic weapon is this true, and i would rather buy a kit and build it for personal accomplishment cause i like building things i know it wont be easy but i dont mind taking up some gunsmithing classes and file for the papers needed to atleast own a weapon.

Its not as simple as sons of guns makes it sound, you need to pay 3k or so a year in taxes/license to be an 02/07 and be in the business of making money doing it not just for fun. And if you become one and make a post sample machine gun you have to destroy it/sell it to LE once you let go of the license. Like I said earlier if you live in a friendly state its much less hassle to just buy a registered transferable gun that you can keep forever or sell to anyone in a friendly state. Do some reading into NFA stuff.

Wow some of these guns are mental, I wish we were allowed guns in the U.K. Shotguns and thats about it.

I do my own parkerizing. Built a stainless tank, burner set up and stand. I have the carbon steel for a bluing tank but haven't gotten around to it since all of my weapons are parkerized. Haven't needed to hot blue something yet.
