Re: good/cheap tig welder
Would you guys recommend learninng with a foot pedal, or go right to a finger switch from the start?
I'll be doing lots of work within the car FWIW.
I'm going to have a look at whats out there this week, maybe I can pick up something on an emergency liquidation this week

I'm not sure everyones take on Lincolns, my buddy uses them a lot at his school with their Formula Baja car as well as Millers. The Lincoln has free shipping, where the Miller has a 500 dollar charge.
I'm going to see if the Sync 200 is ~2100 locally, if I have to ship something I might as well save the money and get the Lincoln lol
Any thoughts or experience?

You're the man, thank you for finding the free shipping on the Miller!!
My buddy is coming over today to help me go through stuff, he can most likely make more sense of things that I am making now. As to me, they are looking the same lol

Re: good/cheap tig welder
i paid $290 for my 330cf tank and my current re-fill price is $90, just try and get the biggest tank you can afford... you will save money on re-fills and save you from the "back again!" comments from the guys at your local welding shop..lol
with that said tanks and gas are A LOT cheaper at the smaller welding supply stores so do a local search for shops and compare prices.

Re: good/cheap tig welder
Even the cheap chinese machines will have a pretty good arc, especially on DC. Actually, it will be hard even if you can, to tell the difference in that and a Miller machine.
The differences to consider are:
AC, DC, or both?
Options (bells and whistles) foot pedal, high freq, pulse, etc
Product support
parts availability
torch compatibility (can you put a torch from the LWS on it)...such as Weldcraft
Reliability
How long will it last

used econotig
I know its not quite as user-friendly as the Dynasty, but I am very happy with my Econotig. Bought it used off craigslist with two torches, foot pedal, regulator, argon tank and a heap of filler rods for $900.

Re: good/cheap tig welder
are the 330cf tanks the ones that are about a foot wide? I guess I have the smaller one thats like 8" wide and like 5" and it cost me $35 a fill. I think they said $75 for the larger size fill.
