Default 6 to 1 merge collector.

I have a customer who I am making a 6 to 1 header for so I made my 1st 6 to 1 collector. This thing is huge!

Not bad! Especially for a first try. Those are a pain to draw in CAD let alone cut out

It will be a header for a s/c IS300. I always wanted to make a 6 to 1 header, and I think it will work well for a s/c car.

How the heck did you weld down in the center? Do you have one of those long pencil type torches, or did you just weld the inside and purge the outside...I'm shootin in the dark here?

I welded them from the ouside in 2 halfs 1st. Than when I put the 2 halfs together I welded that from the inside and with a grinding wheel sanded the insides smooth.

Also, in the inside picture it looks like the middle is flat, but it comes to a sharp point.

I'm gonna have to make one of those one day. That definitely looks rough considering the depth in the middle and trying to both see and get your filler in. Unless the pictures are deceiving it just looks really deep.

It is pretty deep, but you don't really need filler in there, I just fuse the 2 together and the hole is rather large so there is room to get the torch in there.

I see, I see. Yeah, true on the filler...I live in the "sch." world too often...lol. Was this just made as a standard 30 degree convergence, or did you bend specified or requested angles?

i have to make a 6-1 merge as well, but i dont think this design will suit my needs. its for a rb25det motor and the space between the shock tower is tight any ideas?

Just curious have you done any research on the merge angle of collectors effect on hp? Im trying to find some more info on this topic just figured id ask. Looks great man Oh, and are you still using the method you posted a while back to make them?

I always use 15 degree bends for my merge collectors. I have had good luck with that number.

I havn't no, but from what I read 15 seems to be the magic number. I have seen 45 used also, so not too sure.

Yeah I cut all my collectors useing that method.

you may have to break it down to 2 3 to 1s or 3 2 to 1s. Or get creative with how you put it all together.

Damn man...your a solidworks fiend. I need you to come to Pa and give me some solidworks classes....lol. I've had solidworks for about 6 months and hardly use it because I don't have the time I feel I need to really sit down and become that familiar with it.

I use 3d Studio Max to model everything I make, and all I do is make one tube and cut it to the right angle, and since all of them have to be the same, I just duplicated the one and they all fit perfectly in to each other. Can you do that in solidworks?

What is the total length of the collector? What is the length upto where the 2.5" tube is welded on.

Regards,
Justin
