Transmission Problem with 2001 Honda Odyssey
Folks,
I have a 2001 Honda Odyssey. Last Friday it stopped on the road while I was going D4. It seems like the transmission slipped. I could drive to a mechanic friend's place.
After that the transmission got completely locked. It does not move front or back, if the gas pedal is pressed, the engine roars. My friend checked and found that it's giving out code p720, p730 and p0740.
He drained the transmission fluid out and put new one. The engine oil is changed recently. He thinks that the transmission needs replacement. This is $2000 work.
Is there any other checks that can be performed to see the transmission really needs replacement?
Or is if we see those 3 codes, it is pretty much sure that the transmission is really busted?
Appreciate any help or suggestion.
Thanks
Taz

Re: Transmission Problem with 2001 Honda Odyssey
The transmission is toast, the Odysseys were well known for transmission failures. A lot of guys are on their second or third transmission at this point.

Sounds like the pump failed. If it has a dipstick - Check the fluid level with the engine off. Take note where it is on the dipstick. Start the engine and check the fluid level again. If it is at the same level the pump has failed; if the level has lowered then there is some other major problem (torque converted and such) - to me it sounds like the pump.

a reman tranny at local dealership is $3400 installed including all taxes and fluids.
98-2005 V6 trannys all have this issue. In some models Honda also replaces the ECU to alter the shift points as a bandaid.
