Really depends on the condition of the gearbox parts. Most of them are quite old nowadays and have a lot of worn out components.

You can get full rebuild kits or singles. doesnt matter too much. Personally i would use carbon synchros and just do a 100% rebuild to ur likings since the majority of older trans in america have been beaten to ****

The best thing to do is to open the trans and inspect it first so you will see exactly what is needed. Make sure to use code HT102012 for your Honda-tech discount.

I will rebuild a GSR tranny (hydraulic) with type-R LSD.

Which are better, bass or carbon synchros? Heard that carbon synchros "fade" rapidly and need replacement.
Will be for a del Sol H2B for street and some drag. No dayly driving.

I always start saying that it will not be serius drag until hit the track...

Caron synchros are better for performance use. The carbon material acts as a brake for the gear to synchronize the shafts when shifting. The carbon material stops the gear faster and reduces shift grind at higher RPM shifts. Tests have shown them to perform better and outlast brass synchros.

But, the question is, do they last more than brass, or comparable?

Again, is not for daily drive, but I don't want to open the trany again to replace.

Also most people here use 20W50 motor oil. Are they ok with that?

Do you have any local dealer in PR with stock?

The carbon synchros last about the same as brass but work much better. 20W50 is okay but Torco MTF is better if you have it there. We do not have dealers that stock the synchros in PR but we can ship to you.

Currently available carbon synchros last very well under extreme conditions. I know Gearspeed at one point 3 or 4 years ago had a bad batch of carbon synchros that didn't last at all, but as far as I know their current ones are fine. I've personally used the current Synchrotech Pro series carbon synchros and they work great, much, much better than brass, both in how they work, and how long they'll put up with abuse. Torco MTF is also great stuff, totally worth buying.
