Shifting a tranny before closing it?

Default Shifting a tranny before closing it?
I've got the tranny back together ready to put the housing back on but I want to test the shifting beforehand. Can someone explain how to move the shift rod in and out and left and right to get into all the gears plus reverse?

Put some sort of tool into the shift rod and shift it into each gear.
