removing bearings from inside bell housing case in S1 trans?
I've got my B16 S1 trans apart, it was painted orange by a previous owner and changed hands a few times. I opened it up to find out what it was and to see what kind of shape it's in.
I want to replace all seals, all bearings, and install an LSD, the rest is fine.
I've got it apart but I'm not sure what would be the best way to remove the bearings in the bellhousing half of the case, these are the ones that the mainshaft and countershaft sit on.
I'm taking the case to be bead blasted on the outside if that's a good idea? I definitely don't want to leave the bearings in there and reuse them afterwards since there's a chance the grit could get behind there and stay there even after a good cleaning.
This transmission had lots of corrosion on the case, and by the looks of it they primed and painted over it with not much prep. It's a mess, paint stripping got rid of most of it, and sanding by hand would be a pain. I currently don't have a an air compressor so a wire wheel or anything like that isn't convenient either. If I want this cleaned up quick and painless I'm looking at bringing this to someone either way unless I do it by hand.
Any suggestions?

Re: removing bearings from inside bell housing case in S1 trans?
You can use a pilot bearing puller as stated above. These can be rented at your local part stores. Just use shims as needed to level it out of it doesn't sit level with the bearing to be pulled. Most slide-hammer rental kits come with too big of ends to be any use. Be careful with the oil slinger as it does play an important role. Sometimes you can get lucky and can use some bolts/round stock and fashion it in a way you can grab the inside of the bearing; then pull them out by hand (if you are strong enough). This should only be done if the proper tools can't be had.

Thanks guys I can get the bearing pullers through my work actually so that should work out pretty good. I was familiar with the bearing pullers that I'd use to pull the bearings and synchros/sleeves on the shafts, I just hadn't seen any pilot bearing pullers before, we don't stock those at work I'll have to look into it.
It's nice to know the answer was right under my nose, I'm new to transmission rebuilds so I wanted to be sure what to look for.
