Light whining noise in 3rd 4th gear
Ok, I had a bad missed shift a few months ago, long story short, I ended up replacing all the bearings, and replacing the final drive because some teeth got broken on the ring gear and all the teeth got ripped off the pinion. I had replaced all these parts at different times as we didn't know exactly what was wrong. The bearings where the first to get replaced, but there was still a whining noise coming from the trans. It was a relatively loud whine, that was the most audible in 3rd and 4th at low rpm as it wasn't drowned out by motor noise. Then the pinion gear let go completely, and we replaced it aswell as the main shaft bearing again. Well, that seemed to have completely cleared up the whining noise, or so I think. I notice a very faint whining noise coming from the trans again, mostly in 3rd and maybe 4th. Maybe it was there after it was fixed, and i didnt notice since it wasnt near as bad as it was. I am thinking maybe it's normal gear noise, but I'm not sure. Am I just being paranoid, or could there be a problem? Seems to shift and work perfectl, but it shifted fine even when it was whining (except when the ring and pinion gave out) It's a gsr trans with quaiffe LSD using penzoil synchromesh. Any thoughts?
