Default Help me diagnose my Tranny PROBLEM!

Hey H-T. I recently got my tranny rebuilt about 80 miles ago with a new differential bearing, carbon coated synchros for 3-4 gear and honda synchros for the rest of the gears. I kept my same clutch, flywheel, and TOB. For the first 40 miles everything was perfect and shifted great under normal driving conditions and even when taking it to redline.

Now everytime I redline it say from 1st to 2nd it feels like the gate gets blocked off and wont go in until the rpms drop, but there is no grind. If I Redline 2nd going into 3rd it is fine, although I did feel it get a little tough to get into once but that could have just been me. And finally redlining 3rd to 4th it feels like it gets blocked again. The clutch does not slip at all and holds the power great. Im thinking it may be the throw out bearing, but not totally sure. Anyone have any ideas on what may be the problem??

Sprung clutch disc?

Was the sliders and hubs replaced or debured?

I'll assume GSR tranny since you didn't list it.

Doubt he would have broken the springs on the clutch in 80 miles.

I'm guessing the hubs are scratched up and whoever rebuilt it overlooked it as they don't know what to look for when inspecting a trans.

its a GSR tranny with Type R LSD. ACT non sprung 6 puck disc with a ACT xtreme pressure plate. Not sure if they sliders and hubs were replaced or debured, i can ask the guy that rebuilt it.

The guy that rebuilt it works at honda, and rebuilds transmissions all the time, I would hope he know what he is doing. you guys dont think it could be something as simple as a throw out bearing??

No.

No offense to any Honda techs on here, but most can't even tell you how a trans works. Unless he's doing it on shop time then I'd be weary of someone who is willing to take the time needed to rebuild a trans out of their free time when they're probably not charging much.

I am having a similar issue. My tranny wasnt rebuilt but it was perfectly fine... changed to a brand new ACT setup(HD pp w/ 6puck disc) and now it will not go into 2nd gear at high rpm, actually barely at any rpm. Doesnt grind at all.

I tried shift linkage, shifter, bushings and I am stumped. It is either the clutch or transmission.

I am leaning towards the clutch because a few years ago I had the same problem and it turned out to be a cracked pressure plate(ACT). They sent me a new one and it was all good.

On a new clutch install or tranny rebuild......the common cause is not lubing the clutch shaft splines or using too light of a grease and it slinging off.

Every tranny I finish I make sure to apply grease to the needed areas.

Interesting... by not having sufficient lubrication the disk will not dissengage properly causing it not to shift? What do you recommend using on the splines?
