Default Accord short shifter install obstacle??

Hi, I want to put in a short shifter into my 1999 Accord Ex but I seem to have come across something unusual that was probably done from the owner before me. I've been looking online and a lot of articles have said that installing a short shifter is generally simple and that it should just be take out the old shifter and put in the new shifter. Well on mine it seems like the linkage or something has been welded to the shift stick and I've never seen anything like it. Would I need to get a new linkage along with the short shifter or what?? Here are some photos.

Yes, I do know what a short shifter is and does. I'm not saying that this is a short shifter installed. I was stating that I want to install one but this bracket is welded on and it is hindering me from installing a short shifter. And if there is a way to avoid a short shift adapter, I'd rather do that.

Yours is not the "normal" honda shifter your likely to see if you search google for short shifter. It's a wonky design, and it would appear that in order to create the shortness of a short shifter, you have to bolt on an adaptor to raise the pivot point.

Realistically, the adaptor will take 5 minutes to install and will be completely hidden under your shift boot. Make sure to use locktite on the hardware, you don't want it to vibrate loose when you're out and about without tools.

Unless you can find another company that offers a stock-looking shifter assembly (to avoid buying the adaptor) then you might be SOL. Alternatively, find a good welder and have them relocate your stock bracket a tad higher.

So basically, my best choice at shortening the throw on my shifter would be an adapter? But if I wanted to put a stock looking short shifter, I would need to replace the whole shifter assembly? Would it be possible for a good welder to cut the bracket off this stick and weld it onto the short shifter stick instead of replacing the shifter assembly?

You have a cable shifted car, with a somewhat unique stock shifter. What is the easiest and least intrusive way of shortening the throw? A bracket. Why? You just bolt it on and never see it again.

If you want to replace the actual shifter, check this out and see how involved it is...http://www.6thgenaccord.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=30049

I answered your welding question in my first post.

Where could I find a bracket like this? Seems like a good idea and much easier and cheaper than finding a welder to cut this bracket and relocate it.

This. Or you may be able to find an old PSPEC on the used market.

To save some money you could be super gangster like me and make ur own. I cut about an inch out of the lever height and welded a new attachment point for the cable higher up on the lever to shorten the throw as well
