Default 1996 Honda Accord V6 Auto. hard downshift and Tranny Fluid capacity

Hello, I had my 96 Honda Accord V6 automatic rear main seal oil leak fixed recently and the mechanic ended up draining all my transmission fluid (including the torque converter). He ended up using non-OEM Honda transmission fluid to refill tranny. Now the transmission down shifts hard. We also had trouble figuring out how much transmission fluid that the tranny needs after complete drain. Tranny dipstick has no writing on it just 2 holes on the bottom and 1 hole on the top. Talked to several Honda dealerships and the gave me different answers on how much fluid that tranny holds. They told me I need to completely drain the transmission again and refill with OEM Honda fluid. I read on some Honda forums that you can cycle out the tranny fluid with mulitple fluid changes. I also read that there are 2 Solenoid filter screens on the tranny that I might try to change. I am currently trying to cycle out the tranny fluid now with changes every couple days. Will this fluid cycle work or do I need to do a complete drain (including torque converter) and fill again? Please advise

Cleaning the screens only masks the real problem: you are shedding clutch material. All V6 automatics are known for 2nd gear clutch wear.

Almost any fluid produced today is compliant with Honda standards for your particular year.

I don't know why a technician would take the time to unseat the converter to drain it. You better hope he serviced the o-ring on the converter itself, you could have a leak in your future.
