Who has good understanding of Automatic transmissions?
Well, I'm a tech for Honda but we don't deal with automatic transmission issues... we either send it out to be repaired or do a straight re-re if it's warranty.
So I have an automatic 2005 Acura TSX as my winter beater and the transmission has a mind of it's own. If you drive the car in auto mode the 1st-2nd gear shift is HARSH, I mean it literally chirps the tires when it goes into 2nd. Another issue is it slips a tad when going from 3rd-4th.
However, when I shift the transmission with the tiptronic thing it's 100% smooth shifting from 1st-2nd and the slip from 3rd-4th is virtually non existent.
I have no codes stored in the ECU, no broken mounts and no other issues with the car.
To my understanding (from what I've researched on my own) I would think that shift solenoid 'B' is culprit here.
Solenoid ratio “A” will affect:
• Reverse servo control and Reverse engagement
• 1st clutch Forward engagement
• 3rd clutch feed and 2-3 upshift
• TCC lockup RPM slip rate in 3rd only
Solenoid ratio “B” will affect:
• 2nd clutch and 1-2 upshift
• 4th clutch and 3-4 upshift
• TCC slip rate in 4th
So should I start by replacing these solenoids? I know for a fact Honda transmission will code when there's a problem as I already replaced the 3rd gear pressure switch when I bought the car, so I don't know if I want to start throwing parts at this car just yet.
Any help is appreciated! I'll try to talk to a transmission shop sometime this week as well.
Mods feel free to move this topic if I'm in the wrong area/I could have more help in another forum.
