clutch chatter; "bad vibrations" mid-clutch as you slip it. most "performance" clutches do that. not that bad persay, but could damage your drivetrain. car shudders when you release the clutch during shifts.

its what happens when you clutch faces are too slipery to engage the first time and it slips.

like when they get oil on them...

Hm.

I sometimes get this from a stop. But I'm known to use too little throttle sometimes.

Should I be concerned?

there is a definitive difference between the chatter and lurching from lack of torque due to low RPMs, lurching actually shakes the car front and back, chattering shakes the engine/drivetrain assembly.

Naw, it's not lurching...I hear a heavy clattering/ rapid thud kind of sound with the associated vibration sometimes when launching too easy.

Is it possible to have intermittent clutch chatter?

that sounds like clutch chatter. what clutch do you have? a buddy of mine got an unsprung clutch in his S1 and it is unbearable to drive in traffic, absolutely no slip, it is either on or off. and it chatters if you try to ease it in.

i just put in my ls swap w/ a new action stage 2 ks clutch. ive got 250 miles on it now, so im still breaking it in. im pretty easy on it, except for a few times where i shifted a little too high, but i always ease it in. it seems to shudder a little, it does it less the more gas i give it. not sure if its chatter or something else.

to answer your question - maybe.

it is difficult to say. did you change the flywheel or resurface it? is your clutch correctly adjusted?

problem is that i can't recall breaking in a clutch and thinking "hmmm, this new clutch is chattering..."

so i dont know if they do? maybe some do?

nah - i havent answered your at all!!

oh well, HTH,

t..

This is very common amongst aftermarket (read: upgraded) clutches. Partial engagement promotes the sound. The clutch is a 4 puck or similar ? If so... chatter at partial engagement should be expected. The reason is that these clutches are meant to be LAUNCHED, not daily driven... for the most part.

its not a puck at all. its the full face, i think its called segmented disc kevlar. its not bad, i just notice some vibration at times. the clutch is supposed to be "smoother than stock" because its kevlar. i did have the flywheel resurfaced too.
