Weird oil pressure issue! Eeek!
Ok well heres my setup.
84mm block with gsr head
golden eagle lsvtec kit
type r oil pump
precision 6765
At regular driving and even mid rpm full throttle pulls the oil pressure is great. about 12psi at idle when warm and around 35-40psi in cruising rpms. Then when at full throttle it seems normal at first and goes up to 90psi and holds steady. But as the rpms rise, my oil pressure needle will start to fluxuate back and forth and sometimes will even drop to as low as 30psi. Not good when at 8500rpm :/ . I'm really stumped as to why its doing this. The motor runs great and I just happened to notice the gauge doing this out of the corner of my eye a few days ago. The motor probably has only about 1500 miles on it so far and seems healthy besides this. Only thing I can think of is that maybe theres a crack in the oil orifices in the head. Bought the head used so idk where its been in its life. Long story short, I had problems with vtec engaging after the build so I did the vtec air lock test as the helms manual suggests. I could not get vtec to engage for the life of me! Maybe an issue with the cylinder head? Vtec does engage when driving btw, which is weird, but I thought I had found the problem. Turned out to be a bad vtec circuit on the ecu, but what confuses me is why it wouldnt lock with the air test when I was troubleshooting the entire vtec system. Im positive I did the test correctly. Did it multiple times to be sure. Could hear air escaping inside the motor somehow. Figured it was just pushing the oil that was in the head back into the block but now i'm confused if that is supposed to happen or not. Maybe the oil orifices have a crack? Is that possible? Maybe just a faulty electric oil gauge sender? Any other comon issues that would cause this? Not enough oil capacity? My oil level is good and im running a stock size moroso pan so its unlikely I would think. Stock oil warning light does not come on either, not like that does much good though. Idk whats goin on. Any help is appreciated.

I wouldnt worry about your vtech air pressure test if it works when driving the car. I wonder if your oil is foaming at higher rpm and the pump is sucking air or the oil pump is bad. How does your oil pressure compare to the honda specs.?

VTECH?
OP, what weight motor oil are you running? Do you know if your bearing clearances were built loose? You may need to run a thicker oil like 20w50. First thing you want to do is make sure you dont have any bearing damage which would be causing the low pressure. Drain the oil and look for metal shavins in the pan. If not then just try a thicker oil.

what lsv conversion kit are you using?
make sure the line isnt or kinked or could kink with all the vibration at 8500 rpm

Re: Weird oil pressure issue! Eeek!
My bearing clearances are on the looser side of factory specs. I am running 10w30 oil right now in the engine. I actually filled the oil a little past the top
mark on the dipstick and the fluctuation seemed to improve a lot. Im gonna try a few more street pulls tomorrow to double check if its still causing a pressure fluctuation or not. I may just need a larger capacity pan.
