b16b will not pass bar, engine was never offered in any vehicle in the us market but u can put the pistons in a b16a and maybe pass bar with a new cat to hide the increased compression maybe

Re: Update from CA SMOG Ref re: JDM engines
i just bought an 89 civic hatch with b18c1 and its bard. my question is if i get pulled over by a police officer and he is skeptical of my bard sticker and my swap can he still give me a ref ticket to get inspected?
i ask in case i wanna run a test pipe or bore out my motor and do head work.

Like I said before, all that matters is if it's "functionally the same". You just need to swap over USDM intake and exhaust components to the block.

The H22a motor is technically the same as its US counter parts, the A4 and A1. However there is no US equivalent to the B16B. The B16A is completely different. The Refs are pretty much on top of this and I doubt a B16B can get BAR'ed....

It doesn't have to be the same exact motor. Just functionally the same, which it clearly is.
If it had to be the same exact motor it would say so explicitly.'
This isn't rocket science, guys.

Re: Update from CA SMOG Ref re: JDM engines
I've read through most of this thread and didn't see or maybe don't understand but here it goes anyway:
I currently live in Az, where they don't check anything. As long as it passes the sniff test (obd1) or the scan test (obd2). My gf and I are planning to move to California within the next year, I have a 1996 Integra Db with a 00' CTR swap, is there anyway I can get the car registered/bar'd in California? Or should I leave it registered in Az and drive back every 2 years to re-register it?
EDIT* I only got through 2 pages, didn't see the 3rd. And yes a b16b is nothing like the b16a. If anything, it's more of a b18c5 then a b16a

Lol. All engines are "functionally" the same, but BAR require more than similar functionality. The point is moot until someone tries to get one BAR'ed and lets us know how it went...

Re: Update from CA SMOG Ref re: JDM engines
Any fresh info on this?
JDM H22A with ALL USDM parts and USDM Ecu?
LEGAL! Not looking to slide one last them to have an issue at a later date.

I know this thread is ancient, but can I still get my jdm b18c gsr bard with Usdm emission equipment etc? Last time I checked you still can but people are telling me otherwise. Thanks.
