Default Troubleshooting: 1999 GS-R multiple idle, consistency issues.

I'm new to honda tech, I've got a 1999 gsr teg. Its been doing all sorts of weird things. It misfires at idle sometimes. It used to do it all the time no matter what until i replaced the fuel filter. When I'm driving sometimes it will sputter and lose power at anywhere from 1500- 3500rpms in any gear until i give it about 50% throttle or it'll just stop and ill have my power all at once. The idle hangs a lot after i get on it at around 2500- 1500. But if i rev it past about 6000rpms it drops to about 700-800 rpms. i replaced the iac with a remanufactured one off ebay and that helped for about 2 weeks. before i replaced it, it would idle at about 3000rpms. i get codes p1399 p0171 p0170 and p0300 all the time. sometimes after i clear them ill get other codes too for misfires. i have holes in my dc header. im going to swap it out for a stock one tonight. PLEASE HELP ME OUT!

Can you tell us what those trouble codes point to? I don't know them without looking them up.

You don't have all the trouble codes memorized?
P0300- random / multiple misfire detected.
P1399- Manufactures control Ignition system OR Misfire
P0170 Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 1)
P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1)
Jeez. Last full tune up? Timing to spec (and don't say it's good)? Get a new header and fix all other known deficiencies. What are the other two codes? What maintenance have you done to the car since you've had it?

Misfires are usually from ignition issues. Check your grounds and your spark plugs to your wires, cap and rotor.

Fuel system bank codes are probably faulty injectors. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge anywhere in the system to see if the pressure is consistent?

Ditto the above, check fuel pressure to see if it is consistant.
Check FPR, fuel pressure regulator].94

so i replaced the exhaust manifold and it hasn't done the sputtering thing yet. but it still has a high idle but when does idle around 1000rpms it'll misfire most of the time. I'm getting a code for my o2 sensor now and misfire on cylinder 2. those are the only codes I've gotten so far

Valve lash being out of spec can cause all of your codes as well.

well it idles high because my throttle cable sticks. it jumps to about 500rpms then up to about 800 after i pull the pedal up with my foot.

HELP PLEASE. Just bought a 99 gsr that was misfiring badly. Replaced plugs, wires and distributor. Nothing changed. Did valve seals also and while I had the valve cover off an old mechanic friend of mine said my valves were seated and should just need adjusting. I took it to Honda and had them adjust the valves and it ran a LOT better. But after a few days it misfired again and threw code p1399 for cylinder 1 again. I need to get through emissions ASAP PLEASE HELP

Check if your timing is correct both ignition and mechanical, pull the vc and rotate the crank until the cam gears line up at TDC. confirm the notches on the cam gears line up, second let the car warm up and use a timing gun and check the timing.

Check your wire harness to the O2 sensor for cuts or damage and or replace the sensor. reset the ecu

You can adjust the throttle plate stop screw on the side of the T.B to fix the sticking throttle plate and check the slack of the cable don't put too much tension on the cable just enough to be tight otherwise it will keep the throttle plate slightly open.
