Default Symptoms of oil pan leak?

Recently went to my mechanic to get my axles changed. He told me that I have an oil pan leak. This was like a month ago I been keeping track of my oil pan cleaning it of and I do see oil on the oil pan the day after I cleaned it. However I do not see oil on the ground not a single drop.

Does an oil pan leak always result with oil on the ground?

After researching someone said I can also have a front main seal leak?

If I were to have a front main seal leak would the oil get to the oil pan?

Should I be worried? I check my oil levels every 3 weeks and it seems to be at the middle.

If the oil pan were leaking you would be in danger of losing your oil and when it dropped below a minimum amount, you could have engine damage.

It's more likely they meant you have an oil pan gasket leak. This could actually be an oil pan gasket leak or a rear main seal leak depending on where the oil is pooling as it drips onto the oil pan/oil pan gasket.

A rear main seal gasket leak would be located in between the transmission and the engine so you would see it in that area above, when on the ground looking up.

It normally will start leaking around 150k miles or so.

You would have to have the tranny pulled to replace the rear main seal.

Pans usually leak while the engine is running. With the engine off the oil sits below the gasket, so no leak.

Ops I meant to say oil pan gasket. I have determined that it is leaking from the oil pan gasket, however it isn't that bad, I just need to add 1qt of oil like every 1-2 months. Thanks for the information though!
