Default SOHC Distributor on DOHC?

Hi,

I was wondering if an OBD-1 SOHC distributor can be used on a DOHC? Sorry for the stupid question but from what i see so far the answer is no.

Looking at a D16Z6 TD-42U distributor i have i think the crank sensor is in the wrong alignment with the rest of the sensors for it to work on a DOHC. The crank sensor does not align with one of the teeth on the cyl sensor.

And on a SOHC the camshaft pulley is a different size to the DOHC ones - that must mess things up as the crank pulleys are both the same size?

Thanks,

I want to fit a SOHC d series OBD-1 distributor to a DOHC d series along with the SOHC OBD-1 ECU.

At the moment it looks like the position of the engine won't correspond correctly with the distributor's sensors no matter how you look at it.

Yeah, if you would have meant the Dohc D16a8/D16A9, then you could use the D16A6 distributor. (all motors are OBD-0) You'd have to repin the distro plug and do something about the fitment - all three boltholes wouldn't line up. You'd need to use just 2 of them and possibly widen the holes on the distributor, so they alighn.

Now, I doubt any of american people will give you a piece of mind with an OBD-1 DOHC D-series, it's even more rare here than a ZC (=D16A8 OBD-0).

But coming from the abovementioned analogy, you may have a chance using a sohc distro on the dohc engine. Just expect to have to do modifications.

My guess.
Yeah, and let us know how it went.

You can swap the internals of the distributors. My cousin did this but i dont quite remember how. His sn on aim and ht is b20zvtec.
