Default Should I swap throttle bodies? (broken TPS)

Hello All,

I was working on my swap last night going from 1990 LS to a 1994 GSR into my EH. The intake manifold the LS has is probably a 1996+. As I was dropping the GSR engine into the EH, I banged the TPS sensor on the intake mani with the edge of the firewall and cracked it. The TPS sensor on that throttle body has break-away screws so I can't take it off, I would have to use a dremel tool to break off the broken sensor and then tap out the break-away screws (not a problem).

The throttle body from the LS manifold has a TPS that actually does have screws so once I break off the old one from the GSR throttle body, I can screw the one from the LS right on (again, not a problem).

Here is another thing. The LS throttle body DOES NOT have a FIAC (fast idle air control) under the throttle boddy. It just has the ports to run the coolant lines but no actual FIAC. The GSR throttle body DOES, however.

So here is my question; The issue is the broken TPS sensor. Should I swap the TPS sensor (more work due to cutting the broken sensor off) and keep the GSR throttle body OR should I just swap out the throttle bodies with the sensor attached even though one (GSR) has a FIAC and the other (LS) doesn't? I also don't remember if the GSR throttle body is a little bigger than the LS and if they are even interchangeable.

What do you all think?

After thinking about this for a few hours, I think the best thing to do is swap out the TPS instead of the entire throttle body. The reason is because the LS throttle body for that year doesn't use FITV. Since I have an OBD1 ECU, it is going to be expecting a FITV and if I use the ODB2 LS Throttle body, on an OBD1 ECU, I am going to have cold start idle issues.

I think your making a good choice there from my perspective, but I don't know a whole heck of alot when it comes to honda swaps. But seems to me that you shouldn't get rid of a sensor that that motor needs just for ease... what i would do is go to autozone or advance and see if the part numbers for those tps's are the same, if they are then you should have no problems just swappin the tps, but if they are different you might wanna wait for someone more knowledgeable to chime in.

Or look up in the h-t search for that sensor and see if it is necessary, or if you can bypass it.

Throttle: mostly likely going to need to replace the gasket and car will probraly not run right without the fitv

TPS: Use multimeter to recalibrate and your done.

I am pretty sure the TPS is interchangeable since the ECU sends the signal for position and adjusts the mixer accordingly. I wasn't too sure on the FITV though but I believe my logic makes some sense.

I'll make sure to calibrate with my multimeter. Reading should be .5V with IGN set to ON to determine if it's calibrated, correct? It's been a while since I have done a swap but it's slowly coming back to me.

I am going to search on the part number just to make sure, though I think they are interchangeable. I'll post my verification.

I checked at autozone.com. Looks like the LS TPS and the GSR TPS sensors are the same, thus making them interchangeable. Here is the Autozone part number #911-753

Blox makes aftermarket tps sensors. Fairly cheap comes with gasket

Thanks for the info. I have a spare one. I just don't know if I can get the gasket without the sensor. I can probably make my own worse comes to worse.

you can't get the gasket separately.
