Sage Racing Final Drives or others
This is sorta the reverse of every other thread you're gonna read. Trust me, I searched.
I currently have a 89 Honda CRX HF. It is geared to the moon with 2.90 (or something) gears for gas milage.
I like the way it's geared for how I use it. I don't like the lack of power from its 58hp 1.5L.
I picked up a 95 GSR w/48k miles on it and I plan to swap the running gear over.
I'd actually like to gear the trans to run somewhere close to the HF because I commute and I really don't drag race but I do like top speed runs.
When I need to pass in the HF I downshift from 5th to 3rd or sometimes 2nd (5k redline) and I don't mind doing that with the GSR. The tall gears will really only be a handicap from a stop and because the car is light it should be fine. Even the CRX SIR came with 4.266 gears and it had power windows, sunroof and that stuff weighing it down and I'll have the torque of the 1.8.
Having the power instantly available isn't as much of an issue for me as having the revs low for MPG and engine life and my sanity. While riding in other cars I find myself shifting for 6th and it's not there.
While poking around Ebay I found Sage Racing final drives sold by screen name Option Racing. The discription of what they fit isn't great. It just says B16 & B18 and that could be either the GSR/Type R diffs or everything else. They offer a 4.06 ratio which mated to an LS would be pretty nice for my application.
Has anyone ever bought anything from them? Has anyone ever used a Sage Racing final drive? Is there a cheaper way to go, like maybe the Final Drive out of some other B series trans?? Will an automatic trans final drive fit?? Any other ideas??
Try not to flame me too much, if it helps, later plans include adding boost either through a small turbo or positive displacement supercharger to gain low RPM power.

i really dont understand what your saying.....you cant use a d-series tranny on b-series or viceversa....
4.06 final drive for a ls?wtf? it already has a 4.26.
your gsr tranny has a 4.4

Re: Sage Racing Final Drives or others (mmuller)
you wont get better mileage from using a long *** tranny on a gsr motor, you will have the revs too low and you will have to use alot of throttle to maintain speed. sitting at 4500rpms and using 10% throttle will use less fuel and cause less wear than sitting at 2000 rpms using 25% throttle. we went from an LS tranny to a b16 tranny on a stockish b20vtec and actually picked up some gas mileage. on another car we put a d16z6 in a civic cx and left the long *** cx tranny (similar to the hf) and we had to cruise in 4th gear, if we drove in 5th the mileage was reduced about 10mpg. you cant just mix and match engines and gearing. A gsr should be able to go 145 with the stock tranny.... i hope thats enough top speed for you.
